Dave starts off this week’s show by talking about The Freebie, a “mumblecore” film reminiscent of Humpday or Cyrus. The most appealing attribute of this growing genre is the fact that they’re highly improvised (Dave notes that the script for this feature-length film is only six pages) and more in tune with reality. Also in this week’s “What We’ve Been Watching” is a bit of television, with Devindra sharing his surprisingly positive thoughts on Spartacus: Blood and Sand as well as Adam giving a brief update on Breaking Bad.
The success of How To Train Your Dragon has been oft discussed on the /Filmcast and Dreamworks has apparently heard their feverish praise for the movie, declaring it to be a central franchise that’s sure to earn a sequel. In other news, several upcoming movies are going to face 3D conversion and the /Film crew weighs in on how that’ll influence their success.
Katey Rich starts off the review of The Losers, as guests are wont to do. She was impressed with many of the action scenes, but the confusing, convoluted plot ultimately detracted from the film. Devindra isn’t convinced by the plot and premise of The Losers, but the performances and character dynamics stood out enough to make his experience very enjoyable. Dave probably has the most negative opinion of the film, not really allowing himself to get past the illogical plot and criticizing the special effects.
