This is Only a Test is recorded in front of a live-stream audience and some noisy Giant Bomb employees. Will and Norm start the tech talk with a mention of their Asus PC 1001P review, which is apparently a neat little netbook for “collegiate use”, but not so hot on HD video.
They move on to the news of the leak of Dell’s entire line-up of smart-phones and and tablet PCs. The confusingly named line-up goes for the machine-gun approach, with a wide range of features and price-points. Some of the devices will use Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 operating system, some will use Google’s Android OS.
The fourth generation iPhone is next on the agenda. They discuss its features and the controversial origins of its leak. While they disagree over whether Gizmodo should have published the story, they agree they shouldn’t have named the engineer who originally lost the phone.
They awkwardly segue into a discussion of Hulu’s forthcoming $10/month subscription service. The jury is still out on whether or not it will be good value for money.
Questions from the audience round out the show, including discussion of SSDs, desired features for the new iPhone, and HTML5 video.
All sorts of exciting stuff happened this week. Norm and Will talked about a whole lotta leaks. Apple’s next-gen iPhone leaked to Gizmodo, Dell’s next-gen tablets and cell phones leaked to Engadget, and Hulu’s plans for a pay-service leaked to the LA Times. All that, plus listener questions on this week’s This is Only a Test.
