/Filmcast Ep. 96 – Kick-Ass

by Jon Cole in Movies, TVApril 22nd, 2010 @ 9:55 pm
/Filmcast

This week’s /Filmcast starts off unusually but very much in the spirit of the show, with each of the member giving their final impressions of Kick-Ass.  Apparently, their review at the end of the “proper” episode got into spoilers very quickly and without much warning, so Dave felt the need to serve the wary with a completely immaculate mini-review.

After that, it’s back to normal with “What We’ve Been Watching”, kicking things off with Dave’s experience watching Tommy Wiseau’s The Room with a live audience.  Devindra got a chance to check out Treme, the latest film from David Simon.  Considering the fact that the /filmcast has always held The Wire (Simon’s previous, award-winning work) in the highest regard, this show got a fair amount of praise and is sure to get more talk in the future.

News that Joss Whedon is going to get a chance to rewrite the script for both The Avengers and Captain America brings a little bit of optimism to the crew, considering the fact that his directing style could barely seep into The Avengers without good writing at his back.  His pass on the Captain American script is also positive, because even though he won’t be directing the film, the guys are confident that his writing will help bridge the gap between these sequential films.

Jeff Goldsmith joins the podcast to talk about the subject of this week’s review, Kick-Ass.  As previously mentioned, the review quickly shifts to spoiler-laden commentary, so stay away if you’ve yet to see the film.

Covered films and topics: The Room, The Secret in Their Eyes, Treme, Death at a Funeral, The Dinner Game, Joss Whedon to Rewrite Both The Avengers and Captain America, The next James Bond film delayed indefinitely, Kick Ass, Jeff Goldsmith joins from Creative Screenwriting Magazine and its podcast

In this week’s /Filmcast, David ChenDevindra Hardawar, and Adam Quigley praise the virtues of Tommy Wiseau’s The Room, and lament the state of a Hollywood that doesn’t allow a James Bond movie to be made. Special guest Jeff Goldsmith joins us fromCreative Screenwriting Magazine and its podcast
