GWJ Conference Call Episode 184

by Jonathan Downin in GamesApril 21st, 2010 @ 1:31 am
Gamers with Jobs

Shawn is out again this week so Cory is back in the host seat. Rob starts the game talk with Splinter Cell Conviction and while he enjoyed his time with it, he just wasn’t pulled-in by the experience. Lara talks about her time with Final Fantasy XIII, which was 5 minutes, and she will not be going back to it.

Julian has been gaming on his iPad a lot and he talks about a few games including the iPad version of Sam & Max: The Penal Zone. While it sounds like it is a bit buggy, he says that it is still a great experience.

The main attraction this week is the topic of collaborative storytelling. This topic comes from the group’s time with the recently released indie title Sleep is Death from Jason Rohrer. Everyone except Lara seems to be on the same page with the game’s approach of putting the story-telling tools in the hands of the player. She argues that adding a game into the mix is an unnecessary level of complication to what can be accomplished by simply interacting face to face.

Covered games and topics: Splinter Cell Conviction, iPad, Sam & max, collaborative storytelling, emails

This week the crew bands together to discuss collaborative storytelling in games and they totally get along!
