This week’s Game Informer show starts off with a discussion on the only big title release this week, Splinter Cell: Conviction. Andy Reiner has a lot to say about this game, but starts off with one of his few negative thoughts about the world turning black and white when you are hidden. Andy and Ben Reeves seem to agree with the sentiment going around that this game is much more approachable than previous games. They do disagree, however, about the removal of the Spies vs. Mercs mode from the game.
The second segment features Dan Ryckert talking about the games he saw at Konami’s recent press event including Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Luche Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring, and Def Jam Rapstar, all of which he seems fairly positive about. In the last segment, Phil Kollar, Matthew Kato, and Bryan Vore discuss the ongoing Activision/Infinity Ward controversy. With so many team members now leaving Infinity Ward, the guys bring up some interesting thoughts about whether or not Activision even cares about IW as a development studio. Phil points to a bunch of ways that Activision is just sucking up the money from every single thing they put out, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they just let IW sink.
Another week, another Game Informer Show, and this one is jam packed with some heated discussion. First off is Splinter Cell: Conviction, with Andy Reiner and Ben Reeves dropping by to give some more insights into the game, which looks like a rebirth of one of Ubisoft’s flagship franchises. In the second segment, Dan Ryckert reports back from a recent Konami press event, where he saw a new Castlevania title in action as well as some under-the-radar gems. Finally, Matthew Kato, Bryan Vore, and Phil Kollar join host Matt Helgeson to delve further into the sordid Infinity Ward/Activision breakup, the mass exodus of development talent from Infinity Ward, and the newly formed Respawn Entertaiment. We speculate on what this messy incident means for the future of Call of Duty, Activision, and how it could benefit the industry’s other giant publisher, Electronic Arts.
