Mobcast Episode 49

by Jon Cole in GamesApril 12th, 2010 @ 8:53 pm
Mobcast

This week’s Mobcast keeps it close with a mostly Bitmob crew, welcoming returning guest “girlfriend Raychul” back for another episode.  Right off the bat, 3DS conversation stirs some debate, with Raychul making the bold statement that she’s glad Nintendo lead the 3D charge considering they know how to implement new technologies best.  Aaron doesn’t take this sitting down, however, arguing that Nintendo knows how to sell hardware but doesn’t know very much at all about using motion controls well on the Wii, for instance.  When it comes down to discussing the actual hardware, though, the total lack of details leads to a fairly uninformed, short conversation.

The argument blazes on into a short segment about sequels and what they should try to accomplish, hitting on recent iterations of popular games like Final Fantasy XIII and God of War 3 in specific.  Next up is a community-farmed question asking whether open world games should be of the “make your own fun” variety of Just Cause 2 or the more structured variety like Grand Theft Auto 4.

The episode closes out with a heady discussion of what games have “soul”, a clear example being Bioshock while something like Modern Warfare 2 lacks something intangible.

Covered games and topics:  Super Mario Galaxy, Splinter Cell series, Final Fantasy series, Silent Hill series, God of War series, Just Cause 2,

Raychul.com‘s Raychul Moore joins Bitmob’s Dan Hsu, Jason Wilson, and Aaron Thomas on the 49th episode of the Mobcast. The gang talks about the Nintendo 3DS, similar sequels, terrible controls, the future of open-world games, and games that had “soul.”
