Matt Helgeson is back in the hosting spot this week and sits down with Andy Reiner and Nick Ahrens in the first segment to discuss the hot topic of the week in the geek world, the iPad. Both Nick and Andy picked one up right away and it seems that so far, they have both been using it primarily for reading and watching tv/movies. They move on to talk about games on the iPad since it is a gaming podcast after all and mention the main downfall being limited controls. They do however say that there are some great games, especially those built specifically for the iPhone/iPad.
The second segment features a user mailbag based off of an article Phil Kollar posted several days ago. Questions including information on which game they have played the most, whether PC gaming is dying, whether arcades should be revived, and their angle on dual reviews.
Lastly, the third segment focuses on the upcoming football game Backbreaker. The focus of this game seems to be on the animation, which is built on a full motion engine rather than any type of motion capture. Some other more technical features sound as though they are less than desirable although, such as play formations and player AI movement.
This is an extra-long Game Informer show because we had so darn much to say! The first segment features Andy Reiner and Nick Ahrens taunting host Matt Helgeson with their shiny new iPads a.k.a. Reiner’s new best friend. They discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Apple’s new tablet and talk about its gaming applications. Second up is a rare appearance by GI’s big cheese Andy McNamara, who is joined by smaller cheeses Phil Kollar and Jeff Cork in answering questions from the Reader Mailbag. Finally, Matt Bertz and Matthew Kato strap on their shoulder pads to give you the Xs and Os behind Backbreaker, a new football franchise for consoles.
