Three Red Lights

Three Red Lights Podcast Episode 138

by Jonathan Downin in Games681 days ago

After the kerfluffle that took place at IGN earlier in the week, Aurthur Gies makes his IGN debut on Three Red Lights. We don’t know if this is definite sign Arthur taking a more active role on the IGN side of things, but his does name drop Team Xbox several times throughout the episode, so it seem like he may still be primarily there. The lack of community enthusiasm for the XBLA release of Perfect Darks starts the conversation and this leads into an examination of XBLA on a whole. The PlayStation Move gets some talk and the recent leak...

GWJ Conference Call Episode 179

by Jonathan Downin in Games681 days ago

Andrich is back. Final Fantasy XIII talks starts things off and get this– the opinions are luke warm, weird. The slow pace of the beginning is again the culprit of the fun-sucking. After an anecdote about World of Warcraft account hacking the group moves onto Bad Company 2 and the surprising addictiveness of the multiplayer in the game. A couple of the guys have preordered iPads and they share their enthusiasm here. The topic this week relates to the recent announcement of Steam coming to Mac and how the industry could be different...

at1UP

at1UP: 03/16/2010

by Jonathan Downin in Games681 days ago

At1UP may just be taking the title of “ultimate geek podcast” from the Geekbox. The addition of Alan Johnson to lineup continues to lead into the world of fan fiction and examination of minutiae in popular franchises. Comics kick things off before the group moves into a wrap-up discussion of GDC. Jade and Alan have been playing the new Pokemon game for DS and this results in Mike getting worked up over the implementation of the Pokewalker. Jade continues to play through Dragon Quest VIII and has had a somewhat disappointing first...

The Oddcast

The Oddcast: 03/15/2010

by Ross Adams in Games681 days ago

This weeks show is mostly made up of an assortment of random stories from GDC last week. From games played to Sams failed attempts to lie to a woman demoing a game. There’s some discussion of the Playstation Move, which Sam thinks is interesting although agrees it doesn’t seem to offer too much more than the Wii. Tina thanks Sharkey for introducing her to alot of indie games through the recession gaming segement as it meant she knew alot of the games on display. This leads to some debate as to what makes an indie game “indie”...

The Totally Rad Show – Episode 156: Celebratorium

by Ross Adams in Games, Movies681 days ago

It’s the 3 year anniversary of TRS but rather than have a big celebratory blowout the guys decided to have a mostly regular show. Two films discussed this week, kicking off with Green Zone, which only Dan and Jeff got to see. Jeff is mostly very positive about the movie, citing some great performances especially from Matt Damon, Dan is less positive but both at least agree it’s an enjoyable film. Shutter Island is up next and all 3 of the guys saw this one, Jeff again is very positive, having read the book he doesn’t seem as hung...

Giant Bombcast 03-16-2010

by Derek Lavigne in Games682 days ago

After a week of craziness and wild stories at GDC, the Bombcast is back in the basement this week. After a quick roundup of previews from events and parties the previous week including Splinter Cell and Medal of Honor, Brad admits that he is now enjoying Final Fantasy XIII but says that it took him eight and a half hours to get to that point. Also on the Japanese RPG front, Jeff started Yakuza 3 and so far thinks there are a lot of weirdly broken components that made it into the game. Ryan mentions seeing the new Lara Croft game and seems interested...

The Geekbox

The Geekbox: Episode 57

by Jon Cole in Games, Movies, TV682 days ago

The Geekbox returns to some form of normalcy this week, featuring the normal crew minus Karen Chu.  The episode kicks off with some discussion of the latest Ben-centric episode of Lost, Dr. Linus.  Higgins has the dissenting opinion, not really liking the episode due to what he says is poor character development.  Ryan Scott and Mike agree that the latest episode actually wraps up one of the best character arcs in the whole show, so the argument gets a little heated with such opposing opinions. Alice in Wonderland is the movie of the week and...

TWiT 239: Meat Up

by Jon Cole in Tech682 days ago

Leo Laporte was in Austin, Texas this past weekend attending SXSWi (South By Southwest Interactive) and brings a guest-packed show from a live panel he had at the event.  Since there are so many people on the show, several different panels were discussed as well as a ton of different news stories. Since SXSW is one of the biggest social media events of the year, it seems appropriate that social media topics dominate the first half of the show.  Dana Boyd’s keynote raised a lot of eyebrows when she suggested that privacy isn’t necessarily...

The HotSpot

The HotSpot 03/16/2010

by Jonathan Downin in Games682 days ago

Command & Conquer 4: Tiberium Twilight came out today and Kevin shares his luke-warm reception of the game. He says that the game is particularly good in multiplayer with its persistant leveling system, but the single player campaign fails to adequately wrap-up the Kane storyline. Kevin has also been playing Dragon Age: Awakening which he deems as lacking the magic of Origins. The Perfect Dark XBLA remake also gets some time. PlayStation Move is the focus this week and the guys have a lot to say about Sony’s take on the motion controller....

Layoffs strike IGN and Team Xbox

by Jonathan Downin in News682 days ago

Word is slowly trickling out regarding layoffs that took place today at some of the biggest gaming publications including IGN, Team Xbox and potentially others that fall under the News Corporation flag. IGN has seen several shakeups in their editorial structure over the past six months and this seems to be their latest effort to maintain profitability in the current economic climate. The number of people affected is not clear at this time. It has been confirmed that Chris Roper, former Editor-in-Chief of the IGN PlayStation Team and former Executive...

Mobcast

Mobcast Episode 45

by Jon Cole in Games683 days ago

With a bulk of the games industry embedded in the GDC trenches last weekend, Shoe manages to nab a couple of ex-EGM veterans and Gaijin Games’ Alex Neuse (of Bit.Trip fame) for this week’s Mobcast.  Appropriate to the venue, the show kicks off with impressions of the Playstation Move.  They take no time to criticize the hardware’s terrible title, though Alex does shine a little bit of light on the straightforward approach to the name.  However, the crew is in full agreement over the distasteful copying of the Wii experience,...

Player One Podcast – Episode 177 (03/15/10) – The GDC Afterdinnercast

by Ross Adams in Games683 days ago

The first 10 minutes of this week’s episode are tough listening as the guys start off in a busy restaurant, complete with background birthday party. They soon move to a hotel room though with lower audio quality than usual but less background noise. The show kicks off with some talk about Playstation Move, which Phil christens “PS3mote”. Guest Ethan Einhorn thinks it’s the best of the motion controller solutions but Phil and CJ aren’t so sure. Phil thinks the whole think is just a novelty and certainly not worth the...

Rebel FM

Rebel FM Episode 54 — 03/11/10

by Ross Adams in Games683 days ago

The guys wanted to make a point of getting a show out this week after Mac related mishaps stopped them from doing one last week. With GDC going on it’s a shorter show as Anthony and Arthur are on deadline. Arthur got to see Transformers: War for Cybertron, he sounds surprisingly impressed by what he was shown. It sounds like the developers have been given alot of freedom to explore the origin fiction. Anthony saw the new not-Tomb Raider game, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. As a downloadable title it is already a departure for the series...

CastMedium Podcast 028 – 03.15.10

by Jonathan Downin in Games683 days ago

Technical problems have struck again this week, so get ready for another “raw” listening experience. The last official episode of 4 Guys 1UP provided a nice throwback to the good ‘ol 1UP Yours days. It was a nostalgic peek back at why 1UP’s Friday podcast was so great for so long. Garnett also shared a few more details about his new podcast, Weekend Confirmed. The PlayStation Move was the talk of GDC, but it is probably fair to say that most were underwhelmed by Sony’s take on motion controls. We are not too excited...

4 Guys 1UP

4 Guys 1UP: 03/13/2010

by Jonathan Downin in Games684 days ago

It’s a lengthy “last” episode with a full cast of old faces and whole metric ton of topics. The group starts with some discussion about PlayStation Move’s big GDC reveal. The impressions are somewhat muted with a general sense of anticipation about the execution on the software side. In light of GDC and an abundance of development side personalities present, there is a lot of talk about overarching industry trends and the direction that the gaming landscape is heading. Rumors get highlighted in the middle section with the...
