This week’s Mobcast gets back to the show’s conceptual roots, hosted by Aaron Thomas and introducing three guys from all reaches of the industry. The community topic for this week earns the attention of the crew and kicks things off, asking about their impressions of the “one console future”. The question happens to tie into Shanker’s subsequent topic, debating the prominence and influence of 3D browser gaming. As an indie developer with lots of focus on browser games, Shanker dominates the conversation, evangelizing his idea that robust browser games can tap into the widespread appeal of social games on services like Facebook and Kongregate. Despite his outspoken nature, he does bring up the surprising player count of Farmville, which dwarfs that of World of Warcraft several times over.
The other topics are of the more typical fare, leading the guys to recall horrible stories of lost game saves and outrageous gaming marathons. Lost memory cards and stolen consoles plague a couple of the guys and Shanker talks about a bug in LucasArts’s Gladius that prevented him from getting “the minotaur”.
The Escapist‘s Russ Pitts, GameXplain.com‘s Andre Segers, and ex-journalist-turned-indie-dev Shanker Srinivasan join Bitmob’s Aaron Thomas on this week’s show.
The group remembers lost game saves, questions the importance of story over gameplay, ponders a one-console future, debates in-browser 3D gaming, and recalls their most epic gaming binges.
They also complain about getting old, mock Shanker for wasting hundreds of hours on one (broken) game, and alienate anyone who has ever played Farmville. Good times!

What is up with the recent resurgence of Gladius talk on podcasts? Do I need to pick that game up or something?
I saw a bunch of people playing it in the console freeplay area at PAX. I also don't know why there is any interest in this game. Looks mediocre and unremarkable.
