A shorter than usual episode this week as there’s no main topic so it’s all Retro game news from the last few weeks. There hasn’t been too much but the guys do focus on a select few things, starting the the XBLA re-release of Perfect Dark. Sharkey says while it’s dated it’s definitely worth playing, especially if you were a fan of Goldeneye. He says PD is essentially a better Goldeneye and with this improved version it’s a great opportunity to play a game alot of people missed first time round.
Final Fantasy II, which is actually Final Fantasy IV was released on Virtual Console much to everyone’s confusion. The fact this, the SNES version, is a fairly bad translation and is now available (numbered correctly) on various other formats has all 3 guys wondering what the point of releasing it was.
The PC engine version of Castlevania: Dracula X – Rondo of Blood also got a release on VC, notable for being one of the view import games on there. A muted response to it’s release, Jeremy seems glad that what is by all account the definitive version of the game has gotten a release here. He doesn’t think it’s the greatest game but fun for being the last Castlevania of its kind, Sharkey certainly seems excited to get his Wii from a box somewhere and check it out.
Covered games and topics: Perfect Dark XBLA, Final Fantasy II/IV, Castlevania: Rondo of blood
Jeremy Parish, Scott Sharkey, and Ray Barnholt congregate briefly around a malfunctioning studio setup to talk about the recent spate of worthwhile retro downloads, GDC talks, C-SPAN archives, and more.
