GameSpy Debriefings

The Gamespy Debriefings crew phone in from GDC with a very short episode, but manage to cover a lot of ground nonetheless.  Being the resident fighting games expert, Ryan talks a bit about the iPhone release of Street Fighter 4.  He praises the graphics, but predictably questions the quality of the iPhone touchscreen controls.  On a similar note, he’s also had a chance to check out Super Street Fighter 4, which lives up to the solid experience with the non-Super version of the game from the limited amount he’s been able to play.

The Brian’s are big fans of all things Transformers, so they happily took the opportunity to check out Transformers: War for Cybertron.  They sound very optimistic about the title, saying that it seems built from the ground up to support the user-controlled transforming avatars rather than being a reskinned Gears of War game.  They go as far as to compare the game to Batman: Arkham Asylum in terms of strong underlying game mechanics, so let’s hope that their hopes aren’t shattered.

Anthony briefly hits on the Tomb Raider series spinoff titled Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, which is focused squarely on co-op play and explores a lot of new ideas.  A little bit of talk about the Playstation Move (motion controller) wraps up the podcast, which inspires very little hope due to unoriginal games and hardware that clearly look derivative of the Wii.

Covered games and topics:  Monkey Island 2 Special Edition, Plants vs Zombies (PC, iPhone), Street Fighter 4 iPhone, Super Street Fighter 4, Transformers: War for Cybertron, True Crime, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Playstation Move,

With all the chaos of GDC this week it’s been hard to get enough GameSpy editors together to make a show that wouldn’t just be Anthony and Ryan ranting like children. Luckily we managed to make the time so join Anthony, Ryan, Brian Altano and Brian Miggels as they discuss Sony’s GDC press conference, Transformers, Lara Croft, and the new True Crime game. Enjoy!
