It is a very special Bombcast this week if you are a fan of the guys from their old stomping grounds– none other than 38 Studio’s own Rich Gallup is on the show. GDC talk kicks things off before the crew head into a healthy recently played games segment. Borderlands gets some more love and Bad Company 2 is entertaining Jeff. Brad hits StarCraft 2 before digging into his Final Fantasy XIII experiences thus far. Not all is rosy with the latest iteration, but the best moment comes when Jeff realizes that “Phoenix Down” actually means something sensical.
There is a lot more discussion about the Infinity Ward/Activision issue with West and Zampella filing papers against Activision. Portal 2 and Steam coming to Mac has the guys excited, especially the way that Valve is handling the cross platform issues. Jeff touches on the addition of “tasks” to Giant Bomb and the launch of sister technology site, Tested.com.
Releases and emails end the show as usual. Look for more podcasts from the GB crew during GDC.
Covered games and topics: GDC, Borderlands DLC, Sonic All-Star Racing, Bad Company 2, StarCraft 2, Final Fantasy XIII, West and Zampella file, CoD action adventure, GB tasks, Portal 2, Steam on Mac, Socom 4, tested.com, releases, emails
We are joined by special guest “Vinny Caravella” as we warm up for GDC 2010 with close calls with Bam Margera, the scrum master certification process, the literal definition of Phoenix Down, Ryan’s Abe Lincoln action game, and much more!

The Phoenix Down thing was a complete surprise to me, as well. Still, it was fun hearing the moment of realization in his voice.
I came to the realisation about Phoenix Downs true meaning last year and it was mildly mind blowing. How I never thought of it like that before I have no idea.
Mark my name on the "didn't know the true meaning of Phoenix Down" list. Totally ridiculous.
This was clearly one of the best episodes of the Bombcast yet, ranging from Phoenix Down revelations, blind guesses at the game Rich Gallup is developing, and user submitted names for the "thing when you beat your head against a wall all night trying to beat one section of a game, furiously give up and go to bed, then start up the game the next day and advance with absolutely no problem" syndrome.
Yea, my jaw literally dropped when Brad explained what Phoenix down was.
