It finally happened, Erik has upgraded his mic– and it’s glorious. The news of David Ellis leaving 1UP and 4 Guys 1UP for 343 Industries starts the cast and we touch on what the future may hold for the next flagship 1UP podcast. In games, we touch on the PS3 leap year issue and Activision/Infinity Ward. We have plenty to say on both topics, but we aren’t too happy about either.

Moving into more positive territory, Jon covers the Portal ARG that resulted in the announcement of Portal 2. We all enjoyed the way Valve handled the slow reveal and this leads into a discussion about the apparent forthcoming announcement that Steam is coming to Mac. Whether it will be just Steam, or all of Valve’s Source-based back catalog, is yet to be seen.

Alice in Wonderland has been doing massive numbers at the box office and the reviews have been pretty positive. Jon closes things out with a disastrous update on issues facing the new Ubisoft DRM model that we talked about last week.

Covered topics and games: David Ellis leaves 1UP for 343 Industries, ApocalyPS3, IW+Activision, Portal 2, Steam on Mac, Alice in Wonderland, Ubisoft DRM disaster

  1. Mitch says:

I would like to point out that G4TV has a video podcast called Feedback, in which they did talk quite a bit about the IW situation.

  2. Erik says:

Wow, I didn't know about this show. I like this cast and wouldn't mind adding it to my library, but it's not in the Zune Marketplace. Also, I'm not sure I see any reason for it to be a video show.

Anyway, thanks for letting us know about this, and I'll check it out.

    • Mitch says:

I don't really see any reason for it to be a video show either, they probably just have the tools and feel like they should use them :P

      • Erik says:

This is definitely a good show, and I like this cast; but a day later and I'm still only about halfway through. I would really like to load this on my Zune to take with me.

Does G4 have any audio podcasts, or are they all video? Even though it's annoying, I can understand how a video-focused organization would want to keep their products in a consistent medium. Even though video really isn't adding anything in this case.
