4 Guys 1UP

4 Guys 1UP: 02/05/2010

by Jonathan Downin in Games721 days ago

Sonic 4 and the expectations surrounding the game start the podcast this week. The guys milk the fan reactions to recent Sonic title announcements to share their skepticism. The recent Fallout: New Vegas trailer spurs some conversation about what this new entry may be and what Obsidian may bring to the table with their take on the series. The (now retracted) ESRB description of Dead or Alive Paradise enrages Ray, but amuzes the rest of the group. No More Heroes gets some attention and then the guys move onto talk about the 4 year old game that...

Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 151

by Jonathan Downin in Games721 days ago

Mass Effect 2 fever continues with Greg calling it “better than Uncharted 2.” As a staunch supporter of the PS3, this is a pretty huge deal. Dante’s Inferno got a 7.5 from IGN and the Scoop! guys say that it is worth picking up if all you have is an Xbox 360, if you have a PS3, the word is to wait for God of War 3. The Grinder, the lastest game from the team that brought us The Conduit, is coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 and will use motion controls. Sonic 4 and Fallout: New Vegas receive hopeful comments. After another edition...

Joystiq Podcast 126 – Patrick Duffy edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games721 days ago

Mass Effect 2 continues to get a huge amount of love this week. The guys touch on many different aspects of why they love the game and conclude that Bioware has achieved the essence of what makes a true RPG. Justin touches on MAG and he is enjoying the game a lot more than he thought he would. Xbox Live service for the original Xbox will be discontinued on April 15th. There were some interesting tidbits in the announcement sent out by Microsoft, and the guys are looking forward to some insight into enhancements to the Xbox 360 Live service around...

GameSpy Debriefings

The GameSpy Debriefings #113

by Jon Cole in Games721 days ago

The Gamespy crew is trimmed to Anthony, Miggels and Gerald this week, ultimately resulting in a much leaner podcast.  Dante’s Inferno starts off the show, a game which turns out to be not only similar to God of War in its positive attributes but also follows the negative aspects of the classic eastern-style action game.  Frustrating puzzles mixed inelegantly with combat sequences harken back to Anthony’s controller throwing moments of God of War II, so excitement for Dante’s Inferno is quite tempered. The Fallout: New Vegas teaser hit the...

Podcast Beyond

Podcast Beyond, Episode 124

by Jonathan Downin in Games721 days ago

Okay, try to contains yourselves– Sonic 4 has been announced. It is coming to all the major consoles in episodic releases sometime this year. It looks like it will be the classic 2D style gameplay rendered in 3D. The reactions are mixed here with Ryan as the only person who is really excited about this news. There are no releases this week that are worthy of being deemed Pick of the Week this week. The bulk of this episode is dedicated to the informal Trophy tournament that is happening between the guys. They really love their trophies and...

The Game Informer Show

The Game Informer Show Episode 15

by Jonathan Downin in Games721 days ago

After 2 special, game specific episodes last week, we get another regular show. MAG is the first game up this week and the impressions are middling. Like everyone else, the GI crew feels like the 256 player games don’t quite successfully utilize the scope of the player count. It boils down to working as a team in small combat areas to achieve high kill to death ratios, but getting squads to work together sounds like it is difficult. No More Heroes 2 is the 2nd game this week, and it sounds like if you are into Suda 51′s sensibilities,...

The Geekbox

The Geekbox: Episode 51

by Jon Cole in Games, TV722 days ago

The Geekbox comes early this week and Ryan Scott pledges that he’ll post the show every Tuesday to preempt each week’s episode of Lost.  Appropriately, the guys talk about a lot of television, covering the great return to form of Burn Notice and the four minute preview of the season premiere of Lost. For once, the Geekbox crew is on the edge of games coverage, with Karen playing a little bit of Mass Effect 2.  Unfortunately, she hasn’t had much time to play the game, but she seems mostly interested in the plot and apprehensive about the...

Retronauts

Retronauts Episode 86: 02/04/2010

by Ross Adams in Games722 days ago

With the upcoming PSP re-release of the first game, Lunar is the game up for discussion on this weeks show. Jeremy drops a few spoilers for the game without any warning so if you haven’t played Lunar and plan to it may be best to skip this segment. Alot of the discussion floats around the differences between the many versions of the game. Being an early CD based game the guys talk about how appealing it was because of the novelty of voice acting and animated cutscenes. After Lunar the crew move the topic onto the developer behind it, Game...

/Filmcast

/Filmcast Ep. 85 – Edge of Darkness

by Jon Cole in Movies, TV722 days ago

This week’s /Filmcast is unusually dense, with Sundance canceling last week’s show and piling up the backlog.  Steve Weintraub of Collider.com and Dave Chen attended Utah’s indie film festival, prompting them to share their favorite films including Exit Though the Gift Shop and Buried (both of which were picked up for theatrical release). The trailer for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps starts off the news segment, inspiring a lot of excitement despite the /Filmcast crew’s general disinterest in Shia Lebeouf.  Disney recently shuttered...

Three Red Lights

Three Red Lights Podcast Episode 136

by Jonathan Downin in Games722 days ago

Three Red Lights is back after a short hiatus and it is feels true to form with Erik back in the hosting seat. Some Lost fun starts the cast and then the guys move onto Dante’s Inferno. While it doesn’t sound like the guys have been blown away by the game, they say that the actual quality doesn’t warrant a lot of the negative reactions that it has been receiving. Bioshock 2 is less than a week away and the inclusion of a narrative-based multiplayer has the guys wondering if it is necessary. Mass Effect 2 gets an obligatory mention...

Mobcast

Mobcast Episode 39

by Jon Cole in Games723 days ago

This week’s Mobcast is fairly low-key, with a mostly Bitmob crew joined by Raychul Moore.  Shoe’s topic is a slightly retooled version of a previous topic, asking the mobbers to think up one tiny thing they’d like to change about games with no strings attached.  Clearly Mass Effect 2 is on everyone’s minds, as many of the slight changes have to do with the original game, including the poor inventory management system and imperfect conversation skipping methods. Brett’s topic is the role of scripted events in the future...

MacBreak Weekly

MacBreak Weekly 178: Flash Is Cilantro

by Jonathan Downin in Tech723 days ago

iPad discussion is still the focus this week and the impressions have not really changed. Everyone here is a lot more positive on it than almost any other big tech news outlet, but this isn’t too surprising. Andy makes a good case for the iPad not needing true multitasking and argues that it is so fast that it already has a lot of the benefits of multitasking. Even with the “blazing” speed of the iPad, this seems like a bit of a stretch. The battle between Apple and Google continues with the Nexus One finally getting true multitouch....

The HotSpot

The HotSpot 02/02/2010

by Jonathan Downin in Games723 days ago

Brendan is back this week and MAG kicks off the discussion. Chris Watters gave the game an 8.0 in his review, but struggles to get too excited about it in his time here. White Knight Chronicles has finally seen a US release, but it seems to have fallen short in many ways. Star Trek Online doesn’t do much for the console-centric group, and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom incites some anime discussion. Lost Planet 2 will be released on May 18 and it was announced that Marcus and Dom from Gears of War will be playable characters– weird. A 3 year...

Giant Bombcast

Giant Bombcast 02-02-2010

by Derek Lavigne in Games724 days ago

Drew sits in for Brad this week but stays mostly quiet for much of the podcast. The first 10 minutes of this show are amazingly rambling in a way that cannot even be described. The Bombcast then becomes the Spacecast with discussions of Alien vs. Predator, Jeff’s impressions on playing as a Borg in Star Trek Online, and Ryan’s thoughts on why Avatar’s story is actually well designed. The vast majority of the first hour and a half of the show however, is filled with an in-depth and spoiler-filled discussion on Mass Effect 2 —...

at1UP: 02/02/2010

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Movies, TV724 days ago

Lost starts its 6th and final season tonight, so this week’s at1UP starts with Mike trying to share his excitement with Travis and Jade. at1UP episodes have been inconsistent over the past couple months and Mike reveals that this was because he and Travis were helping with the UGO.com redesign– and it’s looks pretty snazzy. Mike finished Darksiders and shares some thoughts about it before Travis talks about his dilema about whether to replay Mass Effect again before Mass Effect 2. A bit of comic talk leads into the obligatory TV...
