MacBreak Weekly 179: QUID PRO AIR

by Jonathan Downin in Tech716 days ago

Leo tries to start the podcast with talk of the release of Aperture 3, but the conversation is instantly derailed. For long time listeners, the return of Merlin Mann is great and his presence on recent shows adds a lot to the conversation, even if he is the “rat hole” master. There is a big discussion in the middle of the cast about ethics in journalism sparked by the recent issue over at TechCrunch. The opinions vary a bit and the situation of each is host is a bit different, but there are some priceless lessons here. Leo is a great...

Giant Bombcast 02-09-2010

by Derek Lavigne in Games717 days ago

A new logo and new music starts off “Season 3″ of the Bombcast. With Brad out again this week, Dave Snider sits in the worth chair to keep the table full. Dave jumps in on the conversation right up front to discuss some differences between the console and PC editions of Mass Effect 2. Jeff discusses his time with Bioshock 2 and seems to enjoy the game while admitting it doesn’t quite live up to the first. Dave has also been playing a bunch of Darksiders which leads to the acknowledgment that often times, titles that simply have...

Nascar (what?) kicks things into high gear this week and the mention of the Super Bowl spawns a conversation about the much more interesting Puppy Bowl. Moving into games, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth sounds to be an interesting direction for the Ace Attorney series. Travis also talks about finding Mass Effect 1 saves online for import into Mass Effect 2. Mike talks about his trip to Vegas to see UFC Undisputed 2010 and then Justing talks about his B+ review of BioShock 2, which will be featured on this week’s Game Night....

The HotSpot

The HotSpot 02/09/2010

by Jonathan Downin in Games717 days ago

Some serious love for BioShock 2 starts that discussion this week. The opinions fall on both sides, but the phrase ‘better than the first one’ is uttered several times. Dante’s Inferno doesn’t fair nearly as well with the guys labeling it as a complete direct rip of God of War. Sonic 4 doesn’t inspire much positivity either. Xbox Live service for the original Xbox is coming to an end and the indifference it palpable. A PSP iteration of the forthcoming PS3 racer, ModNation Racers, has been announced and the crew worries...

Drunken Gamers Radio

Drunken Gamers Radio 02.06.2010

by Derek Lavigne in Games717 days ago

This week there seems to be a little something missing from the show. Oh right, it’s Hilden’s drunken ramblings! John and Moe run a two man show without a firm grasp on the audio equipment, which means no Drunk Dials and right through to emails. They also remind us about the contest they have to win a copy of Bayonetta. First up in the reviews segment is Chess With Friends for the iPhone which John says has a few problems but is overall a competent chess game. Next up is MAG for the PS3 which Moe has a few criticisms of, but still recommends...

The Totally Rad Show – Episode 151: 12 Kinds

by Ross Adams in Games, Movies717 days ago

It’s disappointment all round for From Paris with Love, it’s a gunfight movie with poorly presented and uninteresting gunfights according to the TRS guys. They have pretty much nothing positive to say about the film, Alex goes as far as to say there are some laugh out loud story moments that weren’t intended as such. The other Avatar movie got a proper trailer for the Superbowl, with the love TRS has for the Last Airbender tv show they had to discuss this one. It has certainly got them all very excited, they all agree the effects...

Mobcast

Mobcast Episode 40

by Jon Cole in Games718 days ago

The Mobcast is a little disjointed this week, with Aaron intermittently playing some prerecorded clips from an interview he did with Bioshock 2’s Mellisa Miller and Hogarth De La Plante.  He asked them the same questions asked on the podcast, though, so the transitions aren’t too jarring. Anthony’s topic kicks things off, asking how gaming websites should balance resource intensive, long-form editorial and page-view grabbing top ten lists and the like.  Shoe finds that articles written for the nearly singular purpose of traffic are sometimes...

Filmspotting #290: Edge of Darkness / Michael Hoffman Interview / Top 5 Career Comebacks

by Jon Cole in Movies718 days ago

Filmspotting stays on the mainstream track this week with a review of Edge of Darkness, the latest film directed by Casino Royale’s Martin Campbell.  Adam and Matty agree that one of the best parts of the movie is Mel Gibson’s performance, which proved to be a return to form.  Unfortunately, the film attempted to be more than just a revenge thriller and made half-hearted steps towards political intrigue, ultimately falling short.  Nonetheless, it sounds like the guys enjoyed the film despite the unfulfilled potential. The bulk of the rest...

CM 4.0 & user podcast submissions

by Jonathan Downin in Site718 days ago

Here we are, CastMedium redesign 4.0 (yes, we use Windows numbering). The new design introduces a lot of cosmetic upgrades, as we tend to enjoy implementing. We have only been around for a little over a year, but the aesthetic design of the site has been pretty liquid. This is partly due to my fickleness, but I like to think that it can also be attributed to the quickly evolving nature of web design. It is not all vanity this time around though. We are introducing the ability for you to submit your own podcasts. The most frequent request we get...

Player One Podcast – Episode 172 (02/08/10) – Blowin’ Cartridges

by Ross Adams in Games718 days ago

A fairly quick what you been playing segment this week, all of the guys have been a bit busy. Greg Sewart has been making his way through Spirit Tracks, a significantly better game than Phantom Hourglass in his and Phil’s opinion. CJ picked up White Knight Chronicles, he seems to be enjoying it but most of the discussion is spent comparing the game to everything from Vagrant Story to Animal Crossing. With the shorter first segment the rest of the show is taken up by listener tweets. Someone asks for opinions on the announcement of Sonic 4...

CastMedium Podcast 023 – 02.08.10

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Movies, Tech718 days ago

It is a 2 man show this week with Erik out due to internet issues. Jon and I start this one with some skepticism about CO-OP moving to a live format. That leads into a discussion about the new EGM and Jon is ready to subscribe. Indifference about Dante’s Inferno kicks off the games segment, but we quickly move onto BioShock 2. No pre-orders have been placed yet, but we both admit that we will probably make the Steam purchase rather soon. Android finally gets multitouch and the Edge of Darkness may not be Lethal Weapon or Payback, but it still...

Engadget Podcast 182 – 02.07.2010

by Jonathan Downin in Tech718 days ago

Android has finally received multitouch in a meaningful implementation– on the Nexus One. The Droid and other Android phones will have to wait a little longer, but it is a step in the right direction. In the wake of the iPad announcement, Fusion Garage has started talking about the Joojoo again, but the guys still don’t quite see the appeal. Former Microsoft VP, Dick Brass, wrote a rather scathing opinion piece about Microsoft concerning their ability to innovate. The Engadget guys have a lot to say about it and this leads into a discussion...

Rebel FM

Rebel FM Episode 50 – 02/04/10

by Ross Adams in Games720 days ago

Anthony just finished reviewing MAG, he doesn’t think it’s particularly great. The feeling seems to be that it’s just oddly designed in places and the hook of 256 players doesn’t impact the game in an especially meaningful way. He also got to check out Metro 2033, although it shows the limitations of its budget Anthony thinks it has a certain charm. Having the author of the book it is based on helping with the game could certainly give it a richer fiction than most games of its kind. Arthur has been playing alot of the Bad...
