It’s another non-traditional show with David and Matt in Tokyo for undisclosed reasons. This does afford them the chance to sit down with 8-4‘s John Riccardi and Mark MacDonald to discuss the recent Nintendo announcements. The discussion covers the gamut of release dates to a possible new handheld at E3, but there isn’t too much of substance here.
The second segment is even more meandering with the crew touching on Heavy Rain, the influence of Western development in Japan and the “neutering” of the US release of Yakuza 3. The group makes a good point about Sega not understanding their audience for a game like this in the US by removing parts that define the reason that there is even a small sub-section of consumer that will buy this game. Quick tip– Japanophiles like Japanese stuff.
It’s a short episode and it ends with word of the still forthcoming 8-4 podcast and David seems to take a quick swipe at Rebel FM and Area5 over their solicitation of donations early last year. Friendly poke or low blow?

There’s plenty to talk about this week with Nintendo’s summer release announcements for Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid Other M. We also go a little further in talking about Nintendo’s rumored new consoles along with what Sony can do to shore up their handheld division. Rounding things out we lament about the edits made to the US version of Yakuza 3, and we all gang up on Mark about the splendor of Heavy Rain.
