This weeks shows starts off briefly looking at the recent RPG news, not alot to talk about and most of the time is spent pondering the Fallout New Vegas trailer. Before moving onto the main topic of the show Kat shares her thoughts on Star Trek Online, which she has been putting alot of time into. While she really likes the space combat she is unsure what Cryptic can do to sustain the game. She speculates that maybe it would have been better had the game been given more development time.
Shiren The Wanderer was recently released for the Wii and as such inspired the topic for this weeks show, roguelikes. Rogue was a pretty hardcore ascii based RPG which is notable for having permanent death. Alot of the discussion focuses on the unforgiving nature of rogue and roguelikes, Jeremy sees this type of gameplay as a very distinct challenge that can be greatly satisfying to play.
There is also some discussion of games which although not strictly roguelikes do borrow some elements. Demon’s Souls is a very recent example as it has some harsh penalties for death.
