The Mobcast is a little disjointed this week, with Aaron intermittently playing some prerecorded clips from an interview he did with Bioshock 2’s Mellisa Miller and Hogarth De La Plante. He asked them the same questions asked on the podcast, though, so the transitions aren’t too jarring.
Anthony’s topic kicks things off, asking how gaming websites should balance resource intensive, long-form editorial and page-view grabbing top ten lists and the like. Shoe finds that articles written for the nearly singular purpose of traffic are sometimes necessary, but finds that he can avoid shamelessly doing so by expressing long-form articles in list form for the sake of simplicity.
Aaron’s clearly been quite busy, since he wants to talk about how gaming jobs affect gaming as a whole. It seems like everyone agrees that you can’t just discard the inquisitive, analytical point of view of a journalist when trying to enjoy a game, which often works to a game’s detriment. Anthony mentions how the perpetual flow of games keeps them on a strict regimen, not allowing too much time for personal gaming indulgences.
Bitmob’s Aaron Thomas and Dan Hsu are joined by Bioshock 2′s Mellisa Miller and Hogarth De La Plante, as well as Anthony Gallegos of Rebel FM and GameSpy fame on this episode of the Mobcast.
The group talk about how their gaming jobs have affected their gaming hobby, discuss whether or not a game’s story really matters, question writers’ frequent use of lists, and share the most-bizarre game/product tie-ins.
