The Game Informer Show Episode 15

February 5th, 2010

After 2 special, game specific episodes last week, we get another regular show. MAG is the first game up this week and the impressions are middling. Like everyone else, the GI crew feels like the 256 player games don’t quite successfully utilize the scope of the player count. It boils down to working as a team in small combat areas to achieve high kill to death ratios, but getting squads to work together sounds like it is difficult.

No More Heroes 2 is the 2nd game this week, and it sounds like if you are into Suda 51’s sensibilities, you are going to love this one. Phil points out that a lot of the superfluous, open world aspects from the 1st game have been cut and the bosses have been made more manageable. The whole last half of the show is spent on emails, so get ready to have some questions answered.

This week’s episode heats up with some discussion of Sony’s large-scale military shooter MAG. Host Matt Helgeson interviews GI’s Dan Ryckert and Andy Reiner about the game, learning why they feel it doesn’t have what it takes to match the best shooters on the market. In the second segment, we switch gears to discuss one of the year’s potential cult hits, No More Heroes 2. GI’s Phil Kollar lets us know why the game is one of his favorites of the year so far, while skeptic Joe Juba asks what’s been improved from the original game. Finally, Matthew Kato, Ben Reeves, and Dan Ryckert helps us answer questions from the Game Informer Reader Mailbag. In this segment, the gang reveals where they went to college and what happens in the last episode of Lost. This episode features music by underground power metal legends Slough Feg.
