One of the biggest pieces of news from the past week is Google’s assertion in China that could either break off all business between the two or give Google a lot more breathing room. The commonly held belief is that Google did such a thing for mostly ethical reasons, falling back on their mantra – “don’t be evil.” John has an interesting alternative take on the situation, noting that Google probably doesn’t want too much of their business tied into China’s overly-restrictive economic system.
Continuing on the Google topic, both Leo and John have the latest Android phone, namely the Nexus One. Leo maintains that the phone is competetive with the iPhone in a way that no other Google phone is and John seems to agree. The mobile minute ends with a brief mention of both AT&T and Verizon’s change in phone plans, which Leo postulates might be a ripple effect from TMobile’s any phone, all-you-can-eat plan.
Haiti is obviously a major news topic and has some implications on the tech realm. The most interesting note is that Leo thinks social networking, or Twitter in particular, may have something to do with the quick response to Haiti’s plight.
