Mobcast Episode 37

Mobcast

Shoe is back from the dead to relieve Aaron Thomas for a week, joined by mostly Bitmob staff and his girlfriend, Raychul Moore.  The topics for this week tread some very familiar ground, but it’s nice to get a short reprieve from the guest-heavy episodes for a more traditional Mobcast.

The first and likely most interesting topic asks what video game series need to take a break.  One of the most ubiquitous answers is the Legend of Zelda franchise, for a handful of reasons.  Jason Wilson offers that the sense of exploration and adventure that made the Zelda series exciting when he was younger might have fled with age.  Shoe and Raychul present the fact that the games often retreat to a very familiar formula with some very slight variations.

Shoe brings a creative topic to the table, asking what everyone’s dream game might be.  Raychul tosses out a particularly interesting proposition, namely a translation of Joss Whedon’s Firefly series to an RPG developed by Bioware.  Jason makes an excellent point that while Firefly had its serious moments, it also didn’t take itself too seriously and thus might be better suited for the format conversion.

The crew manage to hit on the oft discussed 3D technology, expressing a common disdain for the idea.  Connectivity between consoles and handhelds as well as memorable or gamebreaking glitches wrap up the podcast.

Bitmob’s Dan Hsu, Demian Linn, and Jason Wilson are joined by The Internet’s Raychul Moore.

The foursome discuss series that need a break, the developer for their dream game, memorable glitches/bugs, connectivity, and the viability of 3D-gaming.
