Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 147

by Jonathan Downin in GamesJanuary 9th, 2010 @ 2:31 am
Game Scoop!

CES continues to be the focus of podcast discussions with this week’s Game Scoop! The biggest gaming news has proven to be the announcement from Microsoft about the forthcoming Xbox Live Game Room. The guys are intrigued about the announcement of a virtual arcade environment, but feel like it still leaves a lot of questions unanswered.

Talk of Project Natal losing its built-in processor leads into a bigger discussion about motion controls. The sentiment continues to be one of disinterest and slight frustration. Darksiders gets a mention before Greg and Jim talk about their underwhelming experience with the MAG beta.

The crew is mixed on the now semi-confirmed for 2010 Wii Zelda game and the idea of an updated DS with motion control insights bafflement. A Knockin’ Boots segment and emails finish the show.

Covered games and topics: CES, Game Room, Project Natal, motion controls, Darksiders, MAG, Matt Hazard: Blood Bath & Beyond, new Zelda, new DS, Knockin’ Boots, emails

Welcome to Game Scoop!, your one stop shop for everything that went down this week in IGN world. It’s Daemon Hatfield, Greg Miller, Jim Reilly, Charles Onyett, and Super Fan Mehdi Solati on board this episode. Mehdi is out here visiting the bay area for the first time and asked if he could meet up with us. We love hanging out with our fans, so we invited him onto the show. He’s a huge Nintendo fan but has also been spending quality time with the PS3 as of late.

CES is going on in Las Vegas and there have been a bunch of announcements regarding 3D TVs, Project Natal, and retro arcade games.

Hardcore gamers: Microsoft says you will love Natal. Its explanation doesn’t make any sense, so we guess you’ll just have to take their word for it.

Darksiders is out and Charles has your review.

Nintendo is working on a fancy pants successor to the DS complete with on-the-go motion controls.

The next console Zelda is apparently coming this year.

Greg and Jim have been playing MAG and have impressions to share.

Boots will be knocked: Is it okay to look at porn while your fiance is sleeping?

This week we’re also giving away 100 discount coupons for Star Trek Online.

Plus, we answer a bunch of listener mail about Metal Gear Solid 4, screen tearing, and the eternal shark vs. octopus debate. Don’t forget, we’re available on iTunes, along with episodes of Game Scoop! TV. Remember to rate the shows while you’re there.

  1. JonCole says:

Opposite the Scoop crew, I'm mixed on the DS w/ motion controls and baffled at the excitement following the announcement of the 2010 Wii Zelda game. Frankly, if Nintendo just linearly follows up Twilight Princess, I have no interest whatsoever. At this point, I'm firmly set on the handheld Zelda games unless they really shake things up.
