4 Guys 1UP

4 Guys 1UP: 12/18/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games780 days ago

There aren’t that many games covered this week, but the games that are, get a serious amount of time. Mass Effect 2 kicks things off, and the guys are not shying away from spoiler, but David does announce the time-stamps before the spoilers begin. It sounds like a lot has changed from the first one, and the tech is much improved. Heavy Rain also gets a ton of time since Matt has played a significant amount of the game. The games seems somewhat divisive, but it may just culminate into something truly fresh. With the 2 big games out of the way,...

Joystiq Podcast

Joystiq Podcast 121 – Nomenclature edition

by Ross Adams in Games781 days ago

The show kicks off with alot of Dragon Age: Origins talk, the graphics are the first point touched on. The guys agree they aren’t great but alot of the issues with the look of the game are down to a lack of animation. Justin has been playing Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes on the DS and is really enjoying it, he is slightly perplexed at the use of the Might & Magic name and the mostly generic subtitle. He is really enjoying the fast paced puzzle gameplay however. There is some discussion of the VGAs which  the general consensus seems...

Filmspotting

Filmspotting #285: Up in the Air / Invictus / Top 10 Films of 2009

by Jon Cole in Movies782 days ago

In probably one of the densest episode of Filmspotting, Adam and Matty tackle Up in the Air, Invictus, and their top 10 movies of 2009.  To start out, Matty recalls the disdain that Adam had for Jason Reitman in 2007 for his Golden Globe nomination for best director.  Luckily, things have turned around with this film, which Adam characterizes as having a few great scenes and no mistakes.  All that said, the tallest praise they give to Up in the Air is a place in both of their top ten lists at the end of the show. Clint Eastwood’s Invictus doesn’t...

The Geekbox

The Geekbox: Episode 44

by Jon Cole in Games, Movies, TV782 days ago

The Geekbox is all over the map this week, with very little talk about video games in particular.  Karen gets into it the most with her discussion of Umloud 2009, which was a charity event for Child’s Play that took place in the past week.  Later on in the show, Mega Man 10 is briefly touched upon with a fair amount of cynicism due to Mega Man 9’s difficulty and the contrived artwork that continues in its sequel. Doctor Who and the Venture Bros. are mainstay television topics of the show and are discussed at length.  Fitch got a chance to...

GameSpy Debriefings

The GameSpy Debriefings #107

by Jon Cole in Games782 days ago

Star Wars is no foreign topic to Anthony Gallegos and Ryan Scott, starting off the podcast with some debate caught on the Gamespy preview of The Old Republic.  Is Obi-Wan or Qui-Gon more analogous to the Jedi Consular class in TOR?  Was Obi-Wan ever a member of the Jedi Council?  All these questions and more are answered at the top of the show. Modern Warfare 2 comes up briefly, since Brian Altano got a chance to finish the single-player campaign.  Unsurprisingly, Ryan also talks a bit about League of Legends again, due to a user comment that...

by Derek Lavigne in Features782 days ago

Editor’s note: Casting Gear is a series about podcasting and the tools used in the process. In this series, we hope to demystify the podcasting process and show the wide range of tools and methods that different podcasters use to produce a show. In addition to listing the software and hardware used, a brief rundown of the work-flow for the given podcast will be provided. Delving into technical minutiae isn’t the goal here, it is to provide a window into the different approaches that are in practice. The following text, unless otherwise noted,...

Podcast Beyond

Podcast Beyond, Episode 119

by Jonathan Downin in Games783 days ago

Comics have come to the PSP, and Greg is not too excited about the high price of old issues. The Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker demo is now available, and the US release includes an extra mission over the Japanese release. The Gran Turismo 5 demo is due for a January release, but don’t expect any retail releases this week or next. Since it is the last real show of the year, the guys take this chance to reflect on their 2009 predictions from early in the year. It looks like Greg will come out on top, but almost everyone hit only 1 of their...

Rebel FM

Rebel FM Episode 44 – 12/17/09

by Ross Adams in Games783 days ago

The show kicks off with Tyler sharing some stories of Modern Warfare 2, it’s pretty much all he’s been playing this week and he is loving it. He says he will definitely “prestige” when he has the option. Arthur has been playing some racing games he missed to be better informed for game of the year discussions, he doesn’t feel Dirt 2 and Need for Speed Shift compare well to Forza 3. Anthony and Arthur have been playing some Army of Two: 40th Day, they both agree it improves on the original but that it still suffers from...

Game Informer 11

The Game Informer Show: Episode 11

by Derek Lavigne in Games783 days ago

Being that it is the holiday season, the GI staff decide to give back in their first segment. Matt Helgeson, Phil Kollar, Jeff Cork, and Nick Ahrens answer various questions from the GameInformer.com community which leads to some quite shocking answers. Phil Kollar, in response to a question about which company will jump on the next generation first, says that he feels the next home console we see very well may come from Apple. The guys also give some very honest answers about what they thing the biggest problem in gaming is at this moment. In the...

Active Time Babble

Active Time Babble V: Etrian Odyssey – 12/17/2009

by Ross Adams in Games783 days ago

This weeks show starts off with a lengthy discussion of recent RPG news. This weeks announcement of Etrian Odyssey III has Jeremy excited, it sounds like Atlus are putting a lot of effort into the sequel. The crew are pretty universally annoyed at the treatment of the Yakuza series in the west. They feel the fact that the games are story driven RPGs isn’t properly indicated to those who may be interested in the games. The main topic this week is the semantics of what makes an RPG. Jeremy feels this is something they should come to some sort...

/Filmcast

/Filmcast Ep. 80 – Invictus

by Jon Cole in Movies, TV784 days ago

As always, the /Filmcast starts off with Dave’s latest viewing, this week’s being Avatar.  The film will be reviewed next week on the show, but he just wanted to take the opportunity to tell people to watch it.  Dave also talks about Parks and Recreation, a show that started off as a blatant rip-off of The Office and has come into its own through season two.  Devindra has also been watching a lot of television, giving ringing endorsements to Community, Dollhouse and Dexter. The biggest news this week is JJ Abrams is planning on making a film...

Gamers with Jobs

GWJ Conference Call Episode 166

by Jon Cole in Games784 days ago

At the top of the show, the Gamers with Jobs tackle the demos of Dante’s Inferno and Bayonetta, with the glaring consensus being that the former is nearly blasphemous and the latter is completely misogynistic.  The crew wonders if these problems are just a shameless practice of “playing to the base”, but Shawn thinks that the hardcore crowd is actually increasingly defensive or prudish of such basal portrayals. The main topic for this week is arrogance and trolling in forums.  Since Shawn is a moderator on the GWJ forums, it seems like this...

Giant Bombcast

Giant Bombcast 12-15-2009

by Derek Lavigne in Games785 days ago

Brad is back this week so the Bombcast crew is back to full strength. After a quick tale of Jeff’s weekend hijinks, Vinny discusses his ongoing gameplay saga with Dragon Age: Origins which has been sucking up much of his time. Jeff spent most of his weekend playing PixelJunk Shooter for review, which he has a few gripes about but feels overall it is a fun experience. While he was out, Brad was given the task of reviewing the new Avatar game which then leads into a lengthy discussion of the probable quality or lack thereof in the upcoming James...

Drunken Gamers Radio 12-12-09

by Derek Lavigne in Games785 days ago

The full trio is back this week and start off the show by announcing that they will be doing their annual live Christmas show on Friday the 18th on uStream. John then goes into his Twitter battle with Gamers With Jobs’ Shawn Andrich which caused him to disappear for a week. From there they move in to Drunk Dials and emails for the week. Reviews start off with Dragon’s Lair for the iPhone, which the guys agree looks fantastic but does have a few issues with control. PixelJunk Shooter receives heaps of praise from all 3 guys after not...

at1UP: 12/14/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games785 days ago

Bioshock 2 is this week’s 1UP cover story and the crew starts off the cast by talking about it. Mike and Travis are especially excited about the cover art, which was done by an artist involved in 2K’s “Artist Series.” The group also touches on the awesome Musical Miscreants feature from last week. Mike had a chance to get his hands on Heavy Rain, and he warns everyone that the controls will take some serious time to get used to. Jade shares her experience with the recent Zelda release, and the regular show ends with TV talk...
