CO-OP – Episode 311: 10,000 Deaths by 1,000,000 Bullets

December 29th, 2009

There are no new releases to be had until the new year begins, so the CO-OP guys take the opportunity to do a more topic-focused show this week. The topic centers around first person shooters and what keeps them coming back to certain titles in the genre.

The usual suspects are represented here with Modern Warfare and Halo receiving a lot of nods, but the group does get into some of the finer points about different approaches developers take, and the importance of community. Valve gets a lot of appreciation here for how they have handles Team Fortress 2 on the PC.

Ryan points out that most multiplayer shooter have moved away from smaller arena setting so it is hard to find games that offer a good 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 experience outside of Quake Live.

It’s a CO-OP roundtable on what makes multiplayer shooters so special. Why do some succeed and others fail? Join as we go over some of the biggest shooters of this year and yesteryear and try to get to the bottom of what makes some stick while others flounder. Also, big thanks to Astro Gaming for providing the freakin’ awesome 5.1 headsets used in this week’s show.
