Player One Podcast: Episode 164 (12/14/09) – This Old Parlour

by Ross Adams in GamesDecember 14th, 2009 @ 12:07 pm

Player One PodcastGreg Ford has gone from a short appearance to no appearance, so it’s a three man show this week. Things kick off with voicemails and tweets. After asking for embarrassing podcast related stories the last couple of weeks the voicemails are certainly interesting. There’s some discussion of “shmups” which evidently is a made-up word that Phil has some strong feelings about.

Phil talks some more about Spirit Tracks, and he really enjoyed it. The design seems to be an improvement over Phantom Hourglass, however the train gameplay gets tiresome. The rest of the segment is taken up by iPhone games which both Phil and CJ have been playing a lot of. Some highlights include Canabalt and Pac-Man Championship edition, with both getting high praise, although Phil isn’t sure about the pricing scheme of Pac-Man.

Greg Sewart abruptly drops out of the podcast and as such doesn’t get a chance to contribute to the what have you been playing segment. CJ rounds-out the show by briefly touching on PixelJunk Shooter, and he is enjoying the usual PixelJunk style so far.

Covered games and topics: Listener voicemail and tweets, VGA announcements, Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Meowcenaries, Super Monkey Ball 2, Angry Birds, Canabalt, Mega Man 10, Pac-Man Championship Edition, PixelJunk Shooter

This week! Our supply of Gregs dwindles down to nothing by the end of the show, but not before we talk about a bunch of different game-related topics. Including: shmups, boss battles, box art, special editions, Canabalt, Meowcenaries, Pac-Man Championship Edition iPhone, Angry Birds, and The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks, among others.
