At the top of this week’s /Filmcast, Dave talks a little bit about the underappreciated Munich. Battleship Pretension’s Tyler Smith cuts in to talk about It’s a Wonderful Life, which leads into some discussion of older films that absolutely live up to their hype even in the modern film arena.
With a short news segment, the guys promptly review this week’s big film, The Road. Tyler kicks off with some criticism of the narration and pacing, the latter of which could have benefitted from more downtime between major scenes. Just about everyone was positive about the performances of Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee, but Devindra had a dissenting opinion (especially with respect to the guys over at Filmspotting) by praising Charlize Theron’s role in the plot. Finally, there’s a unanimous appreciation of the cinematography for The Road, which is certainly a point that could make a break a movie like this.
Note: The /Filmcast crew recorded a special episode of their podcast this week talking to Up in the Air director Jason Reitman. If you’re interested in that film, it’s definitely worth a listen.
