In this week’s brief episode, the /Filmcast crew got a chance to watch Dan Eckman’s Mystery Team.  Since it’s the first big picture effort from Derrick Comedy, the film is far from perfect though shows a lot of potential for these new filmmakers.  Ninja Assassin gets a bit of time as well, with guest C. Robert Cargill taking point in saying that it simply didn’t meet expectations for the standard campy ninja flick.

The news segment is short, mostly dealing with Paul Greengrass’s departure from the Bourne 4 project.  Much speculation is abound concerning his intentions, especially since he had plenty of time and bankroll to produce his interim film, Green Zone.

The guys review The Fantastic Mr. Fox this week, whose trailer was previously lambasted by the crew on a previous show.  Adam (in particular) was left eating crow, however, because the film gets praise from everyone around the table.  It seems that the biggest triumph of this film is that it’s both a return to form and a big step in a new direction for director Wes Anderson, whose most recent offerings didn’t really inspire our venerable film bloggers.
