The Geekbox crew is down to three this week, but doesn’t disappoint with a good bit of focused games discussion. Fitch starts off by asking if The Ballad of Gay Tony and Grand Theft Auto 4 in general are relevant to the current games space with Assassin’s Creed 2 and Uncharted 2 quickly becoming the high watermarks for 3rd person action games.
Ryan Scott continues the conversation from The Gamespy Debriefings about Star Trek Online, because there have been a lot of negative responses to his preview. Ryan Higgins has participated in the beta and visited the official forums, so both sides of the conversation are seemingly present. The main argument is that many recent MMOs are trying to jockey for the World of Warcraft audience and Star Trek Online’s combat and mission structure tends to follow an extremely similar pattern.
Film and television talk is abbreviated this week, with the bulk of it focused on Ryan Higgins talking about his Blu-Ray player dilemma and Ryan Scott discussing Turtles Forever.
Wherein we discuss the week’s three-man band, rogue turkeys, Grand Theft Staleness, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years (and some annoying design decisions), marrying videogame characters, Star Trek Online, the nature of the game review process, Star Trek on DVD, Turtles Forever, and the Battlestar Galactica board game. Starring Ryan Scott, Andrew Fitch, and Ryan Higgins.
