/Filmcast Ep. 76 – 2012

by Jon Cole in MoviesNovember 18th, 2009 @ 10:04 pm

/FilmcastDave starts off the latest episode of the /Filmcast with his discussion American Psycho, which is loved all around the table.  As for more recent films, Adam checked out Pirate Radio, which he recommends for someone seeking a lighthearted, silly comedy.  Devindra also shares his thoughts on An Education and agrees with the consensus that Carey Mulligan is the best reason to see the film.

In this week’s review, guest Dan Eckman begins by saying that 2012 advances visual realism in computer-generated graphics but makes sure to note that he believes the characterization, writing, and premise are in no way realistic.  Adam goes as far as to say that that the film is better described as a comedy than a drama.  Both Devindra and Dave agree that this film is Emmerich’s best since Independence Day and makes up for the blunders of the more recent 10,000 BC and Godzilla.

Note:  /Film’s newest podcast, The Tobolowsky Files, has become so popular that it now has it’s own feed to call home.  The podcast is centered around real, personal stories as told by the fantastic actor Stephen Tobolowsky with a range that reaches from stories of his childhood to insider information on the film industry.  Either way, it’s definitely worth a listen.
