Relative to other big releases over the past weeks, Assassin’s Creed II has been flying under the radar to some extent. A level of trepidation after the critical reception of the first game is understandable, but the latest entry has wowed Kevin, and he is nottheonlyone. Left 4 Dead 2 has garnered an equally positive reception and Shaun shares his opinion after weeks of playtime. Tony Hawk Ride is still MIA due to Activisions decision not to send out review copies– not a good sign.
Moving onto the news, EA is cutting 1500 jobs and is shuttering all projects that are not projected to be huge sellers. This is bad news for all of us who have been enjoying the abundance of original games coming out of the publisher over the past couple years. Modern Warfare 2 sold 4.7 million copies in its 1st 24 hours at retail, and while the guys are not surprised, they are still impressed. NPD discussion leads into talk of the future of Activision’s various peripheral laden franchises.
Voice/emails covering topics such as violence in games to Sony lawsuits spur discussion before this week’s homework, which is to donate to the Child’s Play Charity.
Covered games and topics: Assassin’s Creed II, Left 4 Dead 2, Tony Hawk Ride, EA cutting 1500 jobs, Medal of Honor returning, MW2 sells 4.7 million, Kotick cashes-out, GTAV, NPDs, future of DJ Hero and Tony Hawk, voicemails, emails, homework
Left 4 Dead 2 and Assassin’s Creed II make Justin Calvert, Shaun McInnis, Kevin VanOrd, and Brendan Sinclair feel all tingly, but layoffs at EA and slumping October sales bring the mood back down.
