The Game Informer Show: Episode 7

by Derek Lavigne in GamesNovember 13th, 2009 @ 12:06 am

The Game Informer ShowWith the recent release of Modern Warfare 2, most of the Game Informer team hasn’t been playing anything else. To that extent, this week’s show is a departure from the normal three topical segments with Matt Helgeson and crew opting instead for only two.

In the first segment Matt, along with Jeff Cork, Adam Biessener, and Matt Bertz discuss their likes and dislikes about MW2′s single-player campaign. Although there are some gripes about the game starting the player back in basic training again, the conversation quickly switches to the controversial airport scene. Matt H thinks that it was put in to make a statement, but questions if the level is even crucial to the game’s narrative. The segment rounds out with a discussion on the difficulty of the game on the higher settings.

Andy Reiner replaces Jeff for the second segment to discuss multiplayer features. The consensus seems to be that although the new perks are great, the finely tuned maps are what will keep people coming back over and over. Andy adds his thoughts on the Spec Ops co-op mode, which he thinks can lead to a great sense of accomplishment.

Covered games and topics: Modern Warfare 2

This week, since it’s pretty much the only game that anyone in the world is playing right now, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 takes center stage in the Game Informer Show. Instead of our usual multi-game format, we decided to keep the show frosty and focused on what’s likely to be the year’s best-selling title. In segment one, Matt Helgeson, Jeff Cork, Matt Bertz, and Adam Biessener delve into the game’s single-player component, handing out kudos and a few nagging complaints. The crew also discusses how effective and necessary the game’s most controversial level is in the context of the whole. For part two, it’s multiplayer madness with Andy Reiner, Matt Bertz, and Adam. From the awesome new perks to the intricately designed levels, this game’s multiplayer has enough content to keep us playing for months. In addition, we examine the new co-op Spec Ops mode, which is already earning raves from the staff. This episode features music from the U.K. world music label Soundway Records.
