The EA acquisition of Playfish and the proliferation of casual games starts off The Geekbox after a brief callback to strip club discussion from last week. They also talk about the EA layoffs, specifically at Mythic Entertainment which which were likely in response to the poor performance of Warhammer Online.
Television continues to be a staple on The Geekbox, with a continuation of the Venture Bros talk from last week. Venture Bros and Space Ghost are compared for their validity as “stoner” shows, with the bulk of the crew saying the latter is far more suited to that moniker. With Mike Cruz back from his hiatus, Smallville also had a fair amount of discussion.
The introduction of microtransactions to World of Warcraft was subject to a lot of debate in the closing moments of the show, along with discussion of the value of being the first to achieve certain thing in MMORPGs.
