Mobcast Episode 28

November 10th, 2009

The sweet sounds of a new opening theme song flow into your ear canals at the top of this week’s Mobcast, finally brought to a resolution after the whole submission flush fiasco.  The first topic for this week is 3D gaming, which seems to get unanimous praise amidst cautious optimism due to the high price point of entry.

A conversation about gaming pet peeves brings up some real game design issues that seem to plague the industry for no good reason.  Guest Jay Frechette talks about lazy backtracking and monster closets, which are issues that have been around since the dawn of games.  Aaron talks about an issue that crops up in the recently released Borderlands – inexplicably not picking up ammo automatically.

The cast wraps up with discussion of controversial topics in games, with guest Shanker Srinivasin taking point by supporting an artist’s inherent ability to have every sociopolitical tool at his potential.

Bitmob’s Aaron Thomas and Brett Bates are joined by Shanker Srinivasin, and Area 5’s Jay Frechette. Ubisoft’s Kevin Shortt (Story designer on Avatar) also weighs-in on a number of this week’s topics which include 3D-gaming, game-design pet peeves, movie/game double standards, tired genres, and angry gaming.
