Filmspotting follows up last week’s review of Antichrist with a comparably devastating film, Precious. Based on the novel “Push” by Sapphire, this film tells the story of a young African-American woman who’s sexually abused by her father and emotionally tortured by her mother. Both Adam and Matty were absolutely destroyed by this film, some segments forcing them to cover their faces due to some of the powerful imagery in the film. There’s a little bit of push and pull concerning the casting choices of Mo’Nique as Precious’s mother and Mariah Carey as her teacher, but the complaints are minimal otherwise.
Listener feedback for this week is dominated by listener choices for their top 5 nostalgia films, covering more childish films, films that appeal more to the female side of the table, and many more. With the Kurosawa marathon to be wrapped up on the next after hours, the Cannes marathon comes to life with the first film, “When Father Was Away on Business”. The show wraps up with top 5 bad parent films.
