Game Scoop! Podcast, Episode 137

by Jonathan Downin in Games859 days ago

The guys are back from Japan and the PSP Go maintains its status as the biggest topic of the week with it starting the scoops. Everyone shares their thoughts, but it is covered in much more detail on this week’s Podcast Beyond. Besides Sony’s latest portable, there aren’t too many big stories this week. The crew shares their apathy about Capcom’s motion controlled take on Resident Evil 5 and touch on their other announcement of Super Street Fighter 4. Dead Space 2 has been confirmed to be in the beginning stages of pre-production,...

Podcast Beyond, Episode 109

by Jonathan Downin in Games859 days ago

It’s all about the PSP Go this week. Since the restructuring that has been going at IGN, Hilary moved up the corporate chain and is on the podcast this week. He has a surprising amount of good things to say about Sony’s latest handheld iteration, but he can’t save it from Levi’s wrath. Levi phones in with his impressions and they are negative overall. The main complaints all center around prices. The guys feel like the system and games are overpriced. The PSP minis are cited here as mostly being iPhone ports with a little...

Engadget Podcast 165 – 10.02.2009

by Jonathan Downin in Tech859 days ago

The Dell Latitude Z 600 is the first topic this week and this one feature-packed computer– maybe to its detriment. It has a technology called “EdgeTouch” that results in a quick launch bar on the side of the the keyboard. It also has a lightweight instant-on Linux boot option that runs off a completely separate ARM processor. There is also a security enabled and document scanning 2 megapixel camera and wireless charging and syncing. The product seems so specialized that it fits almost no one’s needs. The new HP Envy 13 gets...

Joystiq Podcast 111 – Get into my Blast Corps edition

by Jonathan Downin in Games859 days ago

Justin and Ludwig are out this week so Griffen McElroy and Dave Hinkle are filling the void. Although Need for Speed Shift received a tepid response from many upon arrival, opinions have been more positive in the past weeks and Dave has been enjoying it as well. Gran Turismo PSP doesn’t fare as well though with Dave calling it shallow and more of the same. Chris has been enjoying WET and commends it for committing to its presentation. Starting out the news this week is the announcement that Gamecrazy is shutting down 200 of its over 600 locations....

Rebel FM Episode 34 – 10/01/09

by Jonathan Downin in Games859 days ago

Crime Craft starts this one out and it’s not pretty. Left 4 Dead Crash Course gets a middling response, with the opinion being that this was more of bone to throw to those complaining about the lack of support for L4D than anything else. The Beatles: Rock Band has Tyler excited, but Anthony and Arthur have barely touched it since its release. Arthur really wants to talk about Uncharted 2, but Anthony calls for waiting until next week to get in-depth on the game so Tyler can play it and join in on the conversation. They do get into it a little...

Three Red Lights Podcast, Episode 126

by Jonathan Downin in Games859 days ago

It’s the first episode of Three Red Lights without Hilary and things are going fine. Ryan Clements has been added to the mix, but it is not clear whether he will be a permanent member along with his regular spot on Podcast Beyond. The guys have been playing some ODST and have a few stories to tell while berating Ryan for not playing with them. Erik was at TGS last week and he shares some impressions about Project Natal. It sounds like everything played fairly well, but he does complain of some minor, ever-present lag in the input. Dead Rising...

Scene Unseen – “Surrogates”

by Jon Cole in Movies860 days ago

Chris and Jimmy dive into a world of robot avatars this week with their review of Surrogates.  Jimmy is mostly positive about the marketing behind the film, saying that he’d go into a theater to see it after being roped in by the trailer.  Chris joins in the mockery that echoes from the /Filmcast about the appearance of Bruce Willis’s “surrogate”, but he backs off a little and says that the movie is definitely a “90 minute rental”.  With a movie like Terminator 3 as the pedigree for Surrogates’s director,...

The Geekbox: Episode 33

by Jon Cole in Games860 days ago

The Geekbox seemingly starts off as a mirror to this week’s at1UP, with Andrew Fitch returning from Japan to talk about his experiences there.  He went with Justin Haywald and Jade Kraus to Disneyland Tokyo, so there’s a bit of familiar dialogue.  Karen talks about Japanese versions of Subway and TGI Fridays, leaving her convinced that east Asians do American food best.  They delve a little bit into the more seedy elements of Japan, so if you’re interested in hearing about Nigerian pimps, make sure you to listen in. Ryan Scott...

at1UP: 09/30/2009

by Jon Cole in Games860 days ago

at1UP returns to it’s normal length this week, starting off the conversation with a couple stories from Jade talking about the Tokyo Game Show.  She drives the show in a direction a little different from than the bulk of TGS podcasts last week, because she talks about some of the landmarks around Tokyo, like Disneyland and the Studio Ghibli Museum. Uncharted 2 gets a bit of talk thanks to the recent episode of Game Night, hosted by Scooter Nguyen, Alice Liang, and Matt Leone.  Apparently, they played through the game with an unlockable skin...

Idle Thumbs 45: Episode Forty-Five

by Jon Cole in Games860 days ago

Nick Breckon returns to video games this week and tells some tales of going home and gaming with the family.  The conversation quickly turns to the latest Mass Effect 2 trailer, which highlights the character “Subject Zero” and the airborne contagion that the Dragon Age’s “Violence” Trailer brought to Bioware with symptoms of terrible hard rock music and “edgy” “adult” “themes”.  It’s dismaying to see the ME2 enthusiasm sapped from the previously ME giddy Chris Remo, but hopefully...

/Filmcast Ep. 69 – Surrogates

by Jon Cole in Movies860 days ago

This week’s /Filmcast kicks off with Dave and Devindra’s impressions of the new handheld-shot, indie horror film Paranormal Activity.  Both guys agree that the film does far more for the genre than The Blair Witch Project without having to rely on a huge marketing push to build tension.  They don’t hesitate to recommend it, but with a strong suggestion of watching this movie in a packed theater to have that communal experience. The first two segments hit on television premieres and highlight the controversy behind the Roman...
