Podcast view added

by Jonathan Downin in Site854 days ago

We are always trying to figure out new ways to make it easier for you to find out what’s new on the site. To that end, we have introduced a new way to see what podcasts have come with the podcast view. We are keeping the main page the way it has always been, but if you just want a quick, visual way to see what has come out since you last checked, this should do the job. You can always access this view by clicking the new menu option located to the left of the search box at the top. Let us know what you think of this new way to browse in the...

CAGcast #174: Shoplifting Grapefruits

by Derek Lavigne in Games854 days ago

CheapyD and Wombat are once again joined by Shipwreck this week after a flood of positive comments, although this is skewed thanks to a contest to give away Dissidia: Final Fantasy. To start out the show, the guys all berate the person who tried to sell a Sarah Palin signed Xbox360 on eBay for 1.1 million dollars. Before getting into what they have been playing, Shipwreck shares his intent to review Demon’s Souls, but wasn’t able to because it was too difficult. In new releases, the trio discuss Afrika finally coming to the US, although...

Idle Thumbs 46: First Annual Year

by Jonathan Downin in Games854 days ago

Chris finally got around to firing up Red Faction and he is loving it. The guys are talking about the game here in a context that hasn’t been touched on too much in the games press. They point out how ridiculous the story is, yet the game doesn’t acknowledge it. This is the norm for games and the discussion here points out that we are almost always put in a position of controlling some sort of psychopath in games, yet we have been so conditioned to this that we rarely notice anymore. The developers of Dead Space and the forthcoming Dante’s...

GWJ Conference Call Episode 156

by Jonathan Downin in Games854 days ago

The guys have been getting into some older games recently with the release of a patch for Sins of a Solar Empire and the new Left 4 Dead campaign. Left 4 Dead is still holding some attention, but Sean still can’t get into it due to his aversion to coop games. The Forza 3 demo is continuing to impress and secures another purchase in Julian. If you are a fan of the Idle Thumbs podcast, this will be a fun listen. Shawn Andrich brought on Chris Remo to discuss his disgust with Bioware over the latest Mass Effect 2 trailer featuring Subject 0....

Command Prompt Episode 63

by Jonathan Downin in Games854 days ago

And the prize for worst sounding podcast from outlet that should have the equipment to sound much better goes to– seriously, this is horrible. Steve cops to having some technical problems at the beginning here, but the levels are all over the place and the overall quality is terrible. They should have just scrapped this one. The group touches on the recent rumors of a Call of Duty movie being in the early stages of conceptualization at the beginning this week. This could be interesting, but game to movie adaptations have yet to prove that...

Giant Bombcast 10-06-2009

by Derek Lavigne in Games855 days ago

Instead of jumping right into games they have been playing this week, the Bombcast guys address the large amount of hate the PSPgo has been receiving over the past week. Jeff went out and bought one on launch and says although he does not feel it should replace existing PSPs, it may be a good option. Ryan and Jeff also recall their weekend of playing pinball at the Pacific Pinball Expo. Brad also mentions that he will gladly be eating his foot on doubting how good Uncharted 2 is. News of the world starts out with the discussion of David Bowie now...

at1UP: 10/06/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Misc855 days ago

It’s a big crew this week with Justin Haywald and Ray Barnholt sitting in. Justin is quickly becoming the most exposed person at 1UP with him appearing in so many podcasts recently. The Rocket Knight 1UP cover story starts things off, but the focus quickly moves to Ray who picked up a PSPgo and attempts to argue its merits. It doesn’t seem like anyone else is leaning towards buying one other than Ray though. Sharkey’s recent Top 5 Insane Sony Ads sparks some reminiscing about how Sony used to be on the cutting edge. Epic Mickey’s...

The HotSpot 10/06/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games855 days ago

GameSpot hardware guy Sarju Shah is on this week to talk about the PSPgo and you can surmise what he has to say about it. His biggest complaint is the price of both the hardware and minis and has been the trend in opinion lately. Kevin is sharing his thoughts on Motorstorm Arctic Edge and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and both come away with positive remarks overall. He also talks about Demon’s Soul, and while it seems to have some innovative features that bring the player community together by incorporating player ghosts within the single-player game,...

Out of the Game, Ep. 14

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Misc855 days ago

Jeff, Shawn, N’Gai and Robert are back together as what seems to be the regular Out of the Game crew now. Uncharted 2 reviews start off the discussion with Shawn especially disheartened by the ever-present problem of people getting worked up over and focusing on scores. Anthony’s GameSpy review exemplifies the core problem here, but Shawn also points out a post over at GameThirst. Jeff’s game, MySim Agents, was released and 1UP happened to give it one of the worst scores from the press. Jeff has a few things to say and even calls...

CO-OP – Episode 216: TGS Special

by Jonathan Downin in Games856 days ago

There is no narrative this week and next week’s show will be shorter with the guys taking a small break to gear up for the busy holiday release schedule and the premier of season 3. Dead Space Extraction starts the show out this week and impressions are positive all around. EA has been billing this as a guided experience, as opposed to an on-rails shooter, and it looks like this distinction is made with good reason. Ryan says he almost feels like this could be a new genre for the Wii. Tokyo Game Show talk takes a huge chunk of the middle section...

The Totally Rad Show – Episode 133: Funtastic

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Movies856 days ago

Starting out movies this week is Zombieland the guys loved it. It sounds like it has just the right amount of camp to be funny without being satirical in a Shawn of the Dead sort of way. It is a genre film done right. Ricky Gervais’s The Invention of Lying also get the thumbs up here, but it doesn’t quite reach the potential of its premise. The guys take the middle segment to sit down with the director of Trick r’ Treat, Michael Dougherty and play an old VHS-based board game from the 80s called Nightmare. Oh how times have changed. Aion...

Mobcast

Mobcast Episode 23

by Jonathan Downin in Games856 days ago

The Mobcast crew is back on Skype this week after sounding much better last week, but Dan assures us that they have superior podcast equipment en route. The first topic this week is next generation consoles and the interest, or lack thereof, in those coming sooner rather than later. Almost everyone agrees that the current consoles still seem to have a lot of life left in them and can last at least a few more years. Matt is the only person that voices a contrary opinion siting that he often plays multiplatform games on PC to squeeze the best graphics...

CastMedium Podcast 006 – 10.05.09

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Movies, Tech856 days ago

After being light on topics last week we find ourselves inundated with news this week. The announcement that Garnett Lee will be leaving 1UP for GameFly Media is the biggest thing to happen in the gaming space since the mass lay-offs at 1UP earlier in the year. We share some quick thoughts on the situation and discuss last week’s returned-to-form Mobcast. The PSPgo has been dominating the gaming discussion, but a lot of what is being said is probably not what Sony had hoped for. While it seems like a needed step towards digital distribution,...

TWiT 215: Who Needs This Crap?

by Jonathan Downin in Tech856 days ago

There have been reports flying around the web that Comcast may be in the market to acquire a controlling share of NBC. This could lead to some drastic changes in how easy it is to watch streaming TV shows over the internet with cable providers having a large interesting in driving package subscriptions. A play for NBC could be a way for Comcast to protect their traditional revenue streams. The topic of advertising takes a big chunk of time this week. It is popular topic and the crew weighs in with their takes on viable strategies. Leo is a strong...

Player One Podcast: Episode 154 – Bursting with hyperbole

by Jonathan Downin in Games856 days ago

CJ picked up a PSPgo and he is sharing his opinions about it here. He isn’t completely convinced that it was a good purchase and starts out his grievances with complaints about the size of the system. While playing Motorstorm he found that it caused his hand to cramp while attempting to hold down the R-trigger. The lack of organizational features in the PSP menu system seem to leave a lot to be desired as well. Pinball seems to be making a comeback with the release of Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection. The guys seem to be enjoying...
