/Filmcast Ep. 73 – Antichrist

by Jon Cole in MoviesOctober 28th, 2009 @ 11:31 pm

/FilmcastMichael Dougherty, director of the recently reviewed Trick ‘r Treat,  joins the regular crew this week to talk about Lars Von Trier’s latest film, Antichrist.  Naturally, the What’ve You Been Watching segment is dominated by horror films in the looming shadow of Halloween, with yet another discussion about Paranormal Activity.

The guys talk about Keychest, a cloud-based movie storage system that’s being developed by Disney.  The sentiment over DRM seems very similar to that of the video game community, especially with Dave’s praise over Valve’s Steam service which brings positives to the table to offset the negatives of licensing games rather than owning them.

Antichrist is the controversial indie film directed by the self-proclaimed “best film director in the world” Lars Von Trier.  Antichrist receives few accolades, though, with Devindra’s unflinching declaration that it’s not a good movie.  Dave can’t say much to argue, though he thinks leading actors Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg act wonderfully amidst an otherwise poor film.

Covered films and topics:  Mike Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat director and X2/Superman Returns screenwriter), Breaking Bad: Season 2, Paranormal Activity, The Children, Sugar, Two Lovers, Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant, Orphan, The Venture Bros., Shane Black Writing a Doc Savage Movie, Billy Ray Tackles Somali Pirates, Cary Fukunaga to Direct Jane Eyre, Disney’s Keychest to Take Home Movies to the Cloud?, Antichrist

This week, Dave Chen, Devindra Hardawar and Adam Quigley assess the state of the vampire craze, praise the works of Shane Black, take another look at Paranormal Activity, and discuss the positives and negatives of storing movies in the cloud. Special guest Mike Dougherty joins us for this episode. Mike Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat is out now on Blu-Ray/DVD and available on Amazon/iTunes/Netflix too.
