Chris and Jimmy get back on the indie bandwagon with Lone Scherfig’s latest film, An Education. In addition to the film’s Sundance love, the starring actress Carey Mulligan of Public Enemies and Wall Street 2 fame piqued the unseen Jimmy’s interest. Chris confirms the strong acting of Mulligan in addition to costars Alfred Molina and Peter Sarsgaard who play her father and boyfriend, respectively.
Jimmy postulates that An Education’s screenplay had to be strong in order to earn the critical appeal that it received, which would complement the fairly strong cast. Chris agrees that the writing was good and points to writer Nick Hornby’s pedigree with Fever Pitch and High Fidelity.
The episode wraps up with a couple “coming of age” DVD picks, with Jimmy’s choice of Dito Montiel’s A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints and Chris’s choice of Federico Fellini’s I vitelloni.
This week, Chris and Jimmy sharpen their pencils, velcro their Trapper Keepers, and feast their eyes on the school girl outfits…that’s right, it’s time for An Education.
