The Geekbox: Episode 35

by Jonathan Downin in Games, MiscOctober 15th, 2009 @ 12:28 pm

The GeekboxKaren is back on this week and she is following up last week’s discussion about Orson Scott Card with her own personal decision to boycott the Dragon Quest games after Fitch related that the original creator is a Japanese Nationalist. Ideologies of Japanese Nationalism include justification of Japan’s WWII actions and denial surrounding the Korean and Chinese occupations.

Comics talk takes up a chunk of time before group the covers the topic of outlets receiving huge swag, and if that influences coverage. This is spawned out of the fact that Namco recently sent out Tekken 6 machines to the offices of 1UP, IGN and others. DJ Hero gets some middling remarks from Karen Ryan talks-up New Super Mario Bros.

Fitch chimes in with the fact that he has 5 first dates in a row this week. The guy obviously has no trouble getting dates. We will have to wait until next week to see if any of them are going anywhere.

Covered games and topics: No Dragon Quest, comics, review ethics, Tales of Vesperia, DJ Hero, New Super Mario Bros.Wii, Fitch update

Wherein we discuss the uproar over last episode’s guest host, Dragon Quest and boycotts, really stupid bands, shocking comic mysteries (with a nod to the dumbest Internet message board theory you’ll ever hear), 2009’s lineup of awesome DC animated movies, Planetary #27 (beware spoilers!), giant Tekken 6 arcade machines, Tales of Vesperia, Legend of the Red Dragon, DJ Hero, John Lithgow’s ass (and how much is too much), New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and an amazing Fitch Hitch development. Starring Ryan Scott, Karen Chu, Mike Cruz, Andrew Fitch, and Ryan Higgins.
