This episode of Filmspotting takes a lot of the essence of the show and stuffs it into one dense podcast.  The show opens with the review of A Serious Man, the latest from the writer-directors Ethan and Joel Coen.  For long-time listeners, it’s no secret that the guys love the Coen brothers, so the review is almost predictably glowing.  With their near encyclopedic knowledge of these directors’ work, Adam and Matty reveal some major themes and characterizations that’re worth keeping an eye out for.

After Massacre Theater, the guys roll an interview with the lead actor of A Serious Man, Michael Stuhlbarg.  With Matty’s background in acting, the interview is very focused on the process of being cast and how an actor works with detail-oriented directors.  For those of you who want some more Stuhlbargy goodness, the /Filmcast also had an interview with him in a standalone episode.

The final segment covers Adam and Matty’s top five movies to check out at the Chicago International Film Festival.  The Filmspotting crew has never been well-known for their mainstream coverage, so the guys are really playing to their base while building some hype around some exciting indie films.
