The Geekbox seemingly starts off as a mirror to this week’s at1UP, with Andrew Fitch returning from Japan to talk about his experiences there. He went with Justin Haywald and Jade Kraus to Disneyland Tokyo, so there’s a bit of familiar dialogue. Karen talks about Japanese versions of Subway and TGI Fridays, leaving her convinced that east Asians do American food best. They delve a little bit into the more seedy elements of Japan, so if you’re interested in hearing about Nigerian pimps, make sure you to listen in.
Ryan Scott naturally has to talk about the rumors about Super Street Fighter IV (now confirmed with a trailer), which boils down to a discussion about character balancing and the value of adding in some random characters from Street Fighter Alpha 3.
The show inevitably turns to discussion about television and comic books. The Amazing Race apparently started in Japan this season, so it seems to naturally fit into the Japan-centric theme. Smallville gets a lot of talk as well, considering Ryan Higgins is a big fan of the playful, silly nature of the show. That transitions well into Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, which comes full circle to channel the conversation from at1UP.
Wherein we discuss Fitch’s Japanese odyssey, Nigerian pimps, super-Internet-fame, Tokyo Game Show 2009, Super Street Fighter IV, Amazing Race, FlashForward, Heroes, V, Smallville, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, longstanding comic book creative teams (or the lack thereof), and Halloween costumes. Starring Ryan Scott, Karen Chu, Mike Cruz, Andrew Fitch, and Ryan Higgins.
