Rebel FM PAX Back to School Special!

by Jonathan Downin in Games883 days ago

The is the most game-focused PAX podcast yet with the guys going in-depth on a lot of games which they saw at the show.  The first half was recorded in the hotel room in Seattle , with the second part recorded in the car on their way back to San Francisco. Although there wasn’t to much in regards to announcements at PAX, there were a ton of games that everyone could get their hands on, queues permitting.  Left 4 Dead 2 seems to have shirked off its L4D 1.5 impression with the new environments and infected types bringing a lot to the game. ...

Drunken Gamers Radio: 9-7-09

by Derek Lavigne in Games883 days ago

This week, the Drunken Gamers are once again joined by special guest Phil Haymes.  After a long day of recording future content, the noticeably less rowdy group start out the show by listening to a drunk dial message left by regular caller FluffyNuts.  Fluffy wants to know what animal the DGR crew would steal from the zoo and how they would get it out, which produces answers involving ugly babies and tigers urinating. Two Wii games are up for review this week the first of which is Cursed Mountain, which apparently could just as well be called...

The HotSpot 09/08/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games883 days ago

As everyone, PAX stuff starts this one off, but GameSpot didn’t really attend the expo so not too much time is spent on it other than trends of the show.  GameSpot held a bracketed tournament that pitted many of the greatest game heroes against each other and then the winners were voted on by readers.  It’s a fun feature so go check out the results. Tomorrow is the 10 years anniversary of the Dreamcast so the HotSpot crew took the chance to talk about their memories of the system and generally talk about their favorite games.  In...

/Filmcast Ep. 66 – Gamer

by Jon Cole in Movies883 days ago

Jordan Hoffman from UGO joins the regular team of the /Filmcast in their review of Gamer.  The “What We’ve Been Watching” segment runs a little short this week but does contain a short review of Mike Judge’s latest film, Extract.  The regulars don’t really like the film with respect to Judge’s Office Space, but Jordan thinks that the central plot holds up a little better than the latter film.  Both Devindra and Jordan speak positively about Fringe, praising the light, fun take on the pseudoscience that predicate each episode. The...

Idle Thumbs PAX 09: BioWare’s Mac Walters

by Jon Cole in Games883 days ago

The Idle Thumbs crew brings their PAX coverage to a close with a concise interview with BioWare’s Mac Walters.  After being a lowly member of the original Mass Effect writing team, Mac decided to climb the company ladder by murdering Mass Effect’s lead writer Drew Karpyshyn, so he naturally has a unique view from seeing both the formative and evolving stages of the Mass Effect trilogy.  Bioware is well known for their proficiency in telling stories and Mass Effect is no exception to the rule.  The series’s development of voice-over...

Command Prompt Episode 60

by Jonathan Downin in Games883 days ago

Straight out of the gate Steve Butts addresses the issue of Jason Ocampo and Staci Krause from last week.  He says that they are indeed no longer at IGN and that he didn’t mean to glean over the issue last week, it is just that there isn’t much more that can be said. PAX starts the game topics this week with some Left 4 Dead 2 impressions and talk of the new clown and jockey infected.  A new Lord of the Rings Online expansion is on its way and Marissa shares some details about that.  In Star Wars news the original Knight of the Old...

at1UP: 09/08/2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games883 days ago

At1UP starts with all PAX talk.  Mike and Jade attended this year’s expo and they have plenty of stories to tell.  It sounds like most of the fan experiences were great outside of some 1UP/Tina haters.  1UP seems to be the only big site that is interested in meeting fans and making their readers/listeners feel like a part of the community with the kind of presence they had at PAX, so way to go 1UP. With the focus being on the PAX experience, there really isn’t too much actual game talk here, but that shouldn’t be a surprise...

CAGcast #171: Escape from New York

by Derek Lavigne in Games883 days ago

After a two week hiatus while CheapyD was stateside, he and Wombat are back for another edition of the CAGcast.  The majority of the first part of the show is taken up by Cheapy discussing his time in New York as well as the duo’s guest appearance on the Howard Stern Show, which was won from an eBay charity auction. Cheapy admits being a bit nervous, but that everyone at the show was very friendly, and that this was one of his dreams come true.  The segment on Stern is tacked on to the end of the show. The two discuss the Cheap Ass Gamer...

Player One Podcast | Episode 150 – Odds, Ends, Bits n’ Bobs from PAX 2009

by Jonathan Downin in Games884 days ago

It’s a special episode of the Player One Podcast this week, not only because it is the big 150, but CJ took PAX as an opportunity to record a show with a lot of different guests.  As you can guess, being a former EGMer, he brings on mostly current and former 1UPers, but there is lot of good stuff here. First up are Patrick Klepek, David Ellis and Andrew Pfister talking about some of the games they saw at the show and touching on the 10 year anniversary of the Dreamcast.  Next is a short talk with listener from the boards followed by the...

CO-OP | Episode 212 – Devoted to Mode 7

by Jonathan Downin in Games884 days ago

Batman starts out this episode.  You probably aren’t going to be getting to much information that you don’t already know out of this segment with all of the coverage this game has received, but you may get a better feel for what people have been talking about with all the great footage interspersed. The middle segment has almost become the iPhone segment.  This week is no different with Cesar and Jason talking about Game Loft’s Gangstar: West Coast Hustle.  It is a pure and simple GTA: San Andreas clone, but it is done well. ...

The Totally Rad Show | Episode 129 – Lawyerdom

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Movies, TV884 days ago

Whether it is because Dan has been on leave for the past week or there is just nothing notable out, there is no movie review this week.  Instead, the guys take the chance to talk about some big movie news including Disney’s acquisition of Marvel and the Jon Favreau signing on to do an adaptation of Cowboys & Aliens.  The movie section ends with talk of the return of Michael jackson’s Captain EO and Star Tours. Guitar Hero 5 takes up all of the game time with a segment that was largely shot at Neversoft.  Alex and Jeff got a chance...

Idle Thumbs PAX 09: Valve’s Chet Faliszek

by Jon Cole in Games884 days ago

The normal crew adds two more thumbs to the mix thanks to Valve’s Chet Faliszek, who’s making a video game.  On the floor, the Valve guys are showing the “Dark Carnival” campaign of Left 4 Dead 2, so it naturally capitalizes the conversation.  The series has never really been known for its serious nature, so it’s not a huge surprise to hear that the carnival games around the in-game campaign environment are actually playable.  With a couple mini-games actually contributing challenges that give chances to earn achievements,...

Xbox 360 Fancast 133 — Bro’in Out, eh?

by Jonathan Downin in Games884 days ago

Richard and Dustin are out in Seattle PAX so it’s a 3 man show this week with Xav and Alexander being joined by Xbox Canada’s Community Manager Jake Reardon.  With most of the industry showing games at PAX there is not much game news so this episode is largely dedicated to emails. Batman starts out the past week’s games segment with Alexander trying to explain how to get the 40+ combo achievement and Jake talks a bit about Shadow Complex.  Xbox avatars comes up and Alexander queries the possibility of having an avatar wearing...

Mobcast

Mobcast Episode 019

by Jonathan Downin in Games884 days ago

For those of you that were gaming 10 years ago this will be a cool episode of the Mobcast.  9/9/99 was touted by EGM as the biggest entertainment launch of all time with the release of the Dreamcast. The guys have brought former Sega PR and Dreamcast launch team member, Heather Hawkins, on this week to talk about the Dreamcast and reminisce about what the games industry was like 10 years ago.  There were a lot of things that went wrong for Sega’s last system, but it still remains a fond memory for many. Some of the games that get mentioned...

CastMedium Podcast 002 – 09.07.09

by Jonathan Downin in Games, Movies, Tech884 days ago

So far, so good.  2 weeks in a row! Erik picked up Batman so he shares his experiences with the game up front here with us discussing how it is similar to BioShock and Too Human.  We then move onto Wolfenstein and lament the absence of a demo for the game.  The opinions about Sony porting the first 2 God of War games to PS3 aren’t universally positive and Erik understands how those Mobcast guys feel about losing interest in games.  Then Jon and I share some Basterds thoughts and we round out the cast with a little love for Sansa. The CastMedium...
