It’s a small crew this week, but that doesn’t hinder the discussion in the slightest. Special guest Wes Wilson, of the Control Point Podcast, is on this week and he is a heavy MMO player so the discussion starts out with MMOs ranging from WoW to Age of Conan and ends on Aion. It sounds like Aion’s real appeal is the graphic fidelity of the game. Wes chalks it up to “newness.”
After singing the praises of the Brutal Legend demo, Shawn expresses his excitement about his newly built Core i5 gaming rig. He decided to throw in an OCZ solid state hard drive and says that it makes an incredible difference in how fast applications and games load. Hopefully we will see SSDs put to more use in the next generation of game consoles, although we are likely at least 2 generations away from that being a reality.
Board games get their requisite GWJ time with Space Hulk before the guys head into this week’s topic: community gaming. Wes has a lot to say on the topic since his podcasts are based around communities, most notably, the Valve/Team Fortress 2 community. He argues that while communities aren’t essential for all games, Developer participation in their games’ communities can go a long way.
Covered games and topics: MMOs vs. other games, Aion, Brutal Legend, Shawn new PC, board games, community gaming, procedurally generated content
This week, Control Point’s Wes Wilson joins us to talk about his crushing MMO addiction, their recent love from Valve and what rabbit does in the tub when he’s happy. Special thanks to Dumb Blond, Dead for the music this week!
