Engadget Podcast 164 – 09.27.2009

by Jonathan Downin in TechSeptember 27th, 2009 @ 9:40 pm

Engadget PodcastThis is one long, news-packed episode of the Engadget Podcast. Things start out with some discussion about a leaked video detailing a Microsoft tablet with the code-name Courier. It looks amazing and is very high concept which has the guys speculating that this is the equivalent of a concept car which will never see public release. Hopefully Apple will see this and give us more than just a big iPod Touch when they get around to doing a tablet.

After touching on Microsoft’s long-rumored Pink phones, the recent net neutrality proposal by the FC Chairman takes center stage. As expected, all 3 of the guys are excited about this development and it looks like ISP will no longer be able to shape content.

The closes out with the guys talking about USB 3.0 and Intel/Apple’s Light Peak standard. USB 3.0 is going to be a nice update to the standard with significant speed improvement and will be a smooth update due to its backwards and forwards compatibility. Light Peak sounds like it will be quite a bit more capable with support for multiple simultaneous high bandwidth tasks.

It’s been a crazy week in news, and after a couple cross-country flights the podcast crew is together and ready to break it all down. Join Josh, Paul and Nilay as they take on Microsoft’s Courier tablet concept and rumored Pink smartphones, dish on the HTC Leo and Windows Mobile, debate the finer points of net neutrality, and talk over the highlights from the Intel Developer Forum and the Tokyo Game Show. Yeah, there’s a ton here — grab a snack and tune in!
