Idle Thumbs 44: Salacious Thumb

by Jonathan Downin in GamesSeptember 25th, 2009 @ 8:48 am

Idle ThumbsThe quirky humor of Idle Thumbs continues to entertain with Chris being inspired by ODST to noir-up the edit this week.

The Halo ODST discussion starting out the cast leaves an impression that is equal parts positive and negative. While Chris praises the Halo series as being one of the tightest FPS experiences around, Nick and special guest Steve Gaynor aren’t quite convinced. The renaming of ODST as “Odious Tea” is brilliant though.

Scribblenauts sparks the now common sentiment that the second entry in the series may make the gameplay mechanically sound, but it’s just somewhat broken in its current iteration. In other “nauts” news, Steve has been playing Hideo Kojima’s classic Japan only Policenauts after a recent fan-subbed version was released and the game sounds weird unique and slightly perverted in that Kojima sort of way. The guys then move on to talk about Dante’s Inferno and the gratuitously over-the-top enemy designs in the game. Emails round out the cast.  Wizard.

Covered games and topics: Halo 3: ODST, Scribblenauts, Policenauts, Dante’s Inferno, Flame-Sim, Dora the Explorer: Dora Saves the Snow Princess, Cabela’s Monster Bass

With Nick Breckon out on assignment, things go a little bit wrong. 2K Marin’s Steve Gaynor joins us for this week’s descent into a tempest of hard-boiled corruption and deceit, where no one knows who to trust or where to turn. And when Master Chief is suddenly kidnapped, Salacious Crumb is on the case. We’re pretty sure ODST is like a film noir, so we took some cues from that.
