Engadget Podcast 163 – 09.20.2009

by Jonathan Downin in TechSeptember 20th, 2009 @ 5:23 pm

Engadget PodcastThe first story this week has the guys discussing the ongoing Apple/Google Voice debacle. Google released a statement explicitly stating that Apple head of marketing, Phil Schiller, personally rejected Google Voice from the App Store and the guys can’t understand how this could be a miscommunication as Apple implies.

Engadget’s Zune HD review has gone up and Joshua has a lot of nice things to say about it and finds it to be an amazing media player, but not so great if you want more from a device like this. He also goes onto say that the iPod Touch is a better value after all aspects are accounted for. The browser in the Zune HD also takes some hits from Nilay. The Archos 5 and new HP DreamScreen photo frames get some quick coverage before the HP Envy notebook line gets some discussion. These new laptops “borrow” heavily from Apple’s MacBook Pro design, so much so that it feels almost like a straight lift.

The HTC Hero is coming to Sprint and the verdict isn’t good. Joshua went hands on with the old European version and the Sprint version and the new version actually comes off as a little more sluggish. The podcast closes out on the newly announced Motorola CLIQ.

Also, if you missed the inaugural episode of the Engadget Show from last week, it is definitely worth checking out. Joshua has stated that it will have new episodes on a monthly schedule and it will replace the podcast for that week so look for coverage of that in the future as well.

We’re a couple days late, but the podcast is back, people. Join Josh, Paul, and Nilay as they run down another hectic week in news, including the Zune HD, some hands-on impressions of the Motorola CLIQ, and the latest in the ongoing Apple / Google saga. Get clicking!
