Adam and Matty go on the wire this week with their review of Steven Soderbergh’s The Informant! Adam starts off their discussion pointing out that the movie decides to breeze over the “The Insider” look on this type of corporate espionage film and instead takes a comedic stance on the situation. Matty said that he was fascinated with the look of the film, which can “only best be described as Simon & Simon-esque, maybe a little Northern Exposure, or sort of Dynasty thrown in for good measure.” Despite the unique look and great cinematography, they both agree that while Matt Damon really owns the role of Mark Whitacre, they weren’t completely pulled into the experience.
Listener feedback takes a look back at last week’s discussion of Extract, with one listener making the point that the film might make a better television series than a film in order to give the characters a chance to be further explored. They also talk about how they address trailers and what role trailers have in spoiling major plot points in the feature length cut. Between their take on trailers and Adam’s avoidance of reading “The Road” in preparation for the film, it seems like the Filmspotting crew likes to keep their movie-viewing experiences as pristine as possible.
