The Beatles: Rock Band receives yet more talk at the beginning of this episode. With the whole crew being huge music fans you can easily guess that it has gone over extremely well. That is not to say that there isn’t a lot of thoughtful discussion going on here though with Shawn going into a pontification about how these types of games can/do affect brain development.
Leading out from the the Beatles the group touches on the Kurt Cobain/Guitar Hero 5 situation and this evolves into a discussion about revisionist history in games and other media. The Beatles: Rock Band is a prime example of this with its white-washed “historical” portrayal of the band’s evolution. Digital actors and their possible place in future forms of current media outside of games, such as movies, finds the group more than a little disconcerted.
Batman finishes the podcast, but Shawn is the only one who has played much of it so the rest of the guys are going to give it a spin and check back in next week. On a side note, Luke is absent again and it seems like he may no longer be a regular member.
Covered games and topics: The Beatles: Rock Band, neuronal maps and brain elasticity, Kurt Cobain/history and music games, communal music experience, digital actors, Batman, upcoming games
