The Zune HD is sweeping the tech world. Initial reviews have been quite positive with the gdgt guys praising it as well. The user interface continues to be hailed as highly usable and fresh. The OLED display handles blacks well and Ryan compliments the UI’s use of black as good design both aesthetically and in function to preserve battery life. The guys are planning a full Zune HD round-table episode soon, so look out for that.
The new iPod Touch comes under some more scrutiny here with some talk about the lack of a camera and the internal design that has space for a camera module. Ryan surmises that Apple probably pulled the plug on the camera months ago. The Archos 5 continues to come across pretty well. While it is far from a market-share grabbing product, it sounds quite solid and is interesting as an Android based tablet.
After quickly touching on the OnLive-like Spawn HD-720, the recently announced Modern Warfare 2 edition Xbox 360 with a 250Gb hard drive gets some attention. Microsoft says the larger hard drive will not be available separately, but Ryan says to look for a standalone to be available in a few months time. The PS3 sales round out the big topics before the guys touch on some smaller announcements and devices.
Another big week for gadgets around here, and we’ve finally got some sit-down time with the Zune HD — and so far the outlook is good. We’re also talking about the iPod touch 3rd-gen teardown that proves its missing camera, the Android-based Archos 5 media player, the new would-be Slingbox of video games, Spawn Labs’s Spawn HD-720, Microsoft’s Modern Warfare 2 edition Xbox 360, and the PS3 slim‘s 300% sales jump. We’ve got some laptops in the mix as well, With HP‘s new Envy 15 and Envy 13 workhorse machines, and its Mini 311 netbook, in addition to Lenovo‘s T400s and X200 with SimpleTap multi-touch.
