With the PAX Plague finally in recession things begin to resemble as close to normal as they possibly can down in the Bombshelter. Jeff runs through the multitude of games that he has been playing over the past week, which include the first four missions of Halo 3: ODST (the rest are embargoed) and Need For Speed: Shift. Ryan says he isn’t sold on ODST and things that it seems boring whereas Jeff seems to have the same opinion of Shift as he makes the point that EA may have alienated both the arcade racing fans and fans of sim-racing. Before the end of the segment, Vinny takes time out to thank a Giant Bomb user who mailed him a DirectX 10 video card, but pleads for no one to send him anything that expensive again.
News of the World starts off with the wild tweets of Courtney Love over the past week in regards to the use of the Kurt Cobain avatar in Guitar Hero 5. While Courtney claims she is going to sue Activision over what she calls “rape”, Activision is claiming they have a signed contract from Courtney. Everyone seems to agree that although Kurt’s avatar is being used in a slightly less than tasteful manner, Courtney isn’t going to get very far if there is in fact a signed document with her name on it. Ryan bring it back to the Dreamcast anniversary from the previous week and the crew discusses their multitude of Quick Looks of DC games. The rumored $199 Wii price drop is also talked about, with Jeff stating that it may be time for Nintendo to start making slightly less money in order to stay competitive.
Although Brad jumps the gun on emails as he is not the biggest fan of new releases, this week actually sees a few good ones, including being a good week for PC Gamers. The emails segment leads to a hilarious story from Jeff that involves cow poop, but not before the show shortly becomes a movie podcast. After a unanimous decision that Die Hard will best Lethal Weapon any day, Dave Snider stops by to discuss the updated lists feature on Giant Bomb, which Jeff has been making good use of already.
Games and topics discussed: Halo3:ODST, Need for Speed: Shift, Courtney Love, Wii price drop, Die Hard, obscure
The first four missions of Halo 3: ODST, Need for Speed: SHIFT, the best way to scratch an Xbox 360 disc, the awesomeness of sleep, and Courtney Love’s internet insanity are just a few of the topics on this week’s edition of the Giant Bombcast!
